PHILADELPHIA – The Wuerffel Trophy announced its watch list today of a record 108 players from college football's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) and Temple's redshirt senior Keith Kirkwood was among those listed. This is Kirkwood's second watch list announcement in just two days, as he is also on the Paul Hornung Award Watch List.
The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented annually by the All Sports Association in Fort Walton Beach Florida. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the Wuerffel Trophy is awarded to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.
A true leader by example, Kirkwood was the first player in new head coach Geoff Collins' tenure to earn Temple's prestigious single-digit honor . He was awarded #5 earlier this spring. He leads both on and off the field participating in nearly every community service project the team undertakes. One of seven Owls currently enrolled in graduate school, Kirkwood earned his degree in criminal justice last winter.
Athletically, Kirkwood has combined for 46 receptions, 717 yards and five touchdowns in his two seasons wearing the Cherry & White. The Neptune, N.J., native transferred from Hawaii in 2014.
Voting for the Wuerffel Trophy is performed by a National Selection Committee that includes college football television and print media, industry notables, former head coaches and prior Wuerffel Trophy recipients.
