Volleyball's Offense Struggles in Loss to Unbeaten Colgate

ALBANY, N.Y. -- The Temple volleyball team fell 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-15) to undefeated Colgate in the opening match of the Desmond Hotel Invitational, hosted by the University at Albany. The loss dips the Owls to 1-3 on the season, while Colgate improves to 4-0.

Keys to the Match
> Temple's offense struggled, hitting just .045, which included a match-best .125 (8-5-24) in the third and final set.
> Colgate hit a robust .287 during the match, while also out-blocking (9-3) and out-digging (48-36) Temple.
> The Owls had no answer for Colgate's Katie Stansbury and Alli Lowe, who combined for 21 kills during the match, just one less than Temple's 22 total kills as a team.
> Despite hitting -.034 in the first set, it was Temple's most competitive against the Raiders.
> The Owls led 3-0, before a 5-3 Colgate run gave the Raiders a lead that they did not relinquish.
> Temple tied things at 16-16 with a 9-2 run, backed by two kills each from Dana Westfield and Janine Simmons.
> Colgate pulled away down the stretch however, closing the set on a 9-4 surge.
> The Raiders took early leads in both the second and third sets, not allowing Temple more than 15 points in either.

Individual Highlights
> Westfield and senior Irem Asci each tallied six kills in the match, leading the offense for the Owls.
> Westfield hit a team-best .267 with a pair of blocks.
> Freshman Katerina Papazoglou tallied four kills, hitting .250 in the match.
> Senior Kyra Coundourides finished with 15 assists and six digs.
> Senior Dara Peric (10 digs) and junior Mia Heirakuji (6 digs) rounded out the Temple statistics.
