PHILADELPHIA – The National Football Foundation released its list of 181 nominees for the prestigious Campbell Trophy, naming Temple redshirt senior Nick Sharga as a semifinalist. Each year, the national award seeks to identify college football's top scholar-athlete, and has been in effect since 1990.

To qualify for the Campbell Trophy, candidates must be either a senior or graduate student competing in their final year of eligibility, maintain a 3.2 GPA, showcase "outstanding football ability" as either a starter or major contributor and have demonstrated strong leadership and citizenship.

Throughout three years with Temple, Sharga has established a reputation as a focused student-athlete, earning recognition on the American Athletic Conference All-Academic Team following each season. Further, the redshirt senior has found himself on Temple's President's Honor Roll each year as well, not to mention other numerous area academic acknowledgements (Philly-SIDA, CoSIDA & The Philadelphia Inquirer).

On the field, Sharga has produced since his redshirt sophomore season, starting five games between two positions (four at fullback, one at linebacker). The same season, his teammates recognized his toughness by voting him to wear a single-digit jersey - #4. As a fullback, Sharga has impacted the game primarily through his brutal hits, but has also racked up 134 career rushing yards and one touchdown.

Notable past recipients of the Campbell Trophy include Florida QB Tim Tebow (2009), Marshall QB Chad Pennington (1999), Tennessee QB Peyton Manning (1997) and Florida QB Danny Wuerffel (1996). Later this season on Nov. 1, the NFF will release a list of 12-14 finalists for the award.
