Volleyball Tops Tulane in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS -- The Temple volleyball team handed Tulane just their fourth loss of the season, winning 3-1 (25-14, 19-25, 25-17, 25-15) at Devlin Field House. The Owls improve to 6-5 overall, 2-1 in conference play, while the Green Wave move to 12-4, 1-2. Â
KEYS TO THE MATCH
> Temple lost Irem Asci early in set one due to injury, but got major contributions all around to grab the win.
> Four Temple players recorded double-digits in kills, with senior Janine Simmons tallying a career-best 11.
> Temple hit .338, holding Tulane to .080 in the match.

> Powered by a pair of aces from Asci, the Owls opened with a 5-1 advantage.
> Temple continued to roll, opening up a 10-5 lead.
> The Owls had a setback with Asci going down with an injury with Temple up 12-7.
> Still Temple rolled after regrouping with a TO, going up 19-9.
> The Owls closed out the set with a kill from Simmons.Â
SET TWO: Tulane 25, Temple 19
> Tulane led 5-2 early in set two before Temple took its first lead,Â
> The Owls led by as many as 14-8, before Tulane started their comeback.
> Temple pushed the lead to 19-16 but that was the last point the Owls would score.
> Tulane closed the set with a 9-0 run to win it 25-19.
SET THREE: Temple 25, Tulane 17
> Set three was tied at 8-8 before Temple made a run.
> Four-straight Owls' points put the cherry and white up 12-8.
> Tulane got as close as 16-13, using a 5-1 run.
> The Owls then won nine of the next 13 to go up 2-1 in the match.
SET FOUR:Â Temple 25, Tulane 15
> Tied at 8-8, Temple created some separation with a 4-0 run.
> Tulane got a pair back, cutting it to 12-10.
> The Owls then used a 6-1 surge to take control at 18-11.
> Temple closed out the match on a 7-4 run to earn the victory.
