#25 USF Tops Women's Basketball

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's basketball team was upended by #25 USF on Wednesday night, falling 89-73 to the Bulls at McGonigle Hall. The loss dips Temple to 9-6 overall, 1-2 in conference play, while USF improves to 13-4, 3-1.

KEYS TO THE GAME
> USF shot 56% (19-34) from the field in the first half, including a 57% (8-14) from three.
> Temple shot 50% from the field in the second half, holding the Bulls to 43.3% with just one three.
> However, USF held a 42-30 advantage on the glass, and a 32-26 edge in the paint to seal the win.

INDIVIDUAL HIGHLIGHTS
> Senior Tanaya Atkinson tallied 27 points with six rebounds and four assists to lead the Owls.
> Freshman Mia Davis finished with 15 points and eight boards.
> Freshman Emani Mayo ended her night with 11 points and a pair of steals.
> Freshman Breanna Perry had seven points, while grad student Mykia Jones added six.
> Sophomore Shantay Taylor finished with five points, while senior Khadijah Berger added a team-high five rebounds.

FIRST QUARTER
> A fast-paced first frame saw one tie and six lead changes in the first four minutes.
> Temple had its last lead at 10-9 when Berger connected on a driving lay-up.
> From there, USF mounted a 16-5 run, which included closing the quarter with eight unanswered points to make it 25-15.
> The Bulls shot 71.4% (5-7) from downtown to bolster their offense.

SECOND QUARTER
> USF's hot shooting did not let up in the second, as the Bulls connected for over 50% from the field for the second-straight quarter.
> Temple kept pace in the first minutes, getting the lead down to five, as Mykia Jones hit a three, and Davis added another bucket to make it 27-22.
> From there, USF went on a 22-7 surge, making eight of their next 11 shots, to push the lead to 49-29.
> Temple got a score from Davis in the final minute to set the halftime score to 49-31.

THIRD QUARTER
> Temple cut into the deficit in the third quarter, outscoring USF 26-22.
> Atkinson put up huge numbers in the frame with 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists.
> The Owls held USF to just 1-4 (25%) from three in the quarter, and ending the frame trailing 71-57.

FOURTH QUARTER
> Temple got the lead down to 12 points with a jumper from Davis to start the fourth quarter.
> USF then went on a 9-1 run that pushed the lead back to 20.
> A three from Mayo closed the gap back down to 14, but USF finished out the 89-73 win.

UP NEXT
> Temple is back in action on Saturday, traveling to Cincinnati for another American clash.
> The Owls and Bearcats will tip off at 1:00 p.m.
