PHILADELPHIA – Temple Football announced today that Reggie Garrett was promoted to the role of defensive analyst. Garrett spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant for the Owls working with the defense.
"Reggie has an outstanding football mind and we are excited to promote him," said Temple head coach Geoff Collins. "We are a developmental program in all phases, developing players and coaches. Like most successful organizations, we look to promote from within when it's warranted. Reggie has earned that and is on his way to becoming an outstanding football coach."
Garrett arrived in Philadelphia after two seasons with Pace University as defensive backs coach. At Pace, he worked with the corners and safeties and also served as punt return coordinator. Prior to his time with the Setters, he spent the 2013 season with the University of Rhode Island assisting with the cornerbacks.
A 2012 graduate of Norfolk State University, Garrett was originally a walk-on to the football team but earned a scholarship along the way to being named a senior captain. The Chesapeake, Va., native, was part of the Spartans' 2011 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Championship team and was vice president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
Collins also shuffled a few roles within his staff and announced the following promotions:
Ed Foley – Assistant Head Coach Offense / Special Teams Coordinator / Tight Ends
Taver Johnson – Assistant Head Coach Defense / Co-Defensive Coordinator / Safeties
Dave Patenaude – Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks
Andrew Thacker – Defensive Coordinator / Linebackers
Jim Panagos –Defensive Line / Run Game Coordinator
Chris Wiesehan –Offensive Line / Run Game Coordinator
Tom Pajic – Senior Offensive Advisor
