11.12.18 | Football
THIS WEEK
The Temple Owls are back home for the first time in nearly a month to take on the USF Bulls for the final home game
of the season for the Owls. This game will also serve as Senior day and military appreciation day for the program. Kickoff is set for Saturday, November 17, at 12:00 p.m. ET and will air on ESPNews and WPHT 1210AM.
Temple and USF first squared off in October, 2012. The game took place at Lincoln Financial Field and resulted in aĀ 37-28 win for the Owls. Temple and USF didn't play again until 2015 but have played every year since. The two teamsĀ have also traded wins and losses since they started playing each other and the game last year resulted in a USF winĀ when Temple traveled down to Tampa.
LAST WEEK
Temple is fresh off a high-scoring and run-dominated 59-49 win against Houston. Against Houston, RB Ryquell Armstead and the offense went score-for-score with the electric Houston offense. Armstead had a career game finishingĀ with 210 yards and a career-high and AAC-record six touchdowns. He was just one touchdown shot of tying theĀ program record held by Montel Harris who scored seven in 2012 against Army. Armstead wasn't the only Owl to getĀ into the endzone, as Temple scored all eight of its touchdowns on the ground. FB Rob Ritrovato had 91 yards andĀ a touchdown and DT Freddie Booth-Lloyd had a one-yard rush for a touchdown, his third score of the season. WRĀ Ventell Bryant penned his name in the Temple record books by surpassing Willie Marshall's all-time receiving yards record of 2,272 yards. Bryant currently has 2,319 yards and is only two catches away from being the all-time leaderĀ in receptions. The last two games marked the first time in program history Temple has had 500+ yards of offense inĀ consecutive games. Temple also never had 200+ yards of passing and rushing in consecutive games until last week.
Defensively, the Owls had their work cut out for them with another high-octane offense in Houston. The Owls took ad-Ā vantage of great field position early in the game and scored twice before Houston knew what hit them. CB Ty MasonĀ blocked a punt on Houston's first series that led to an easy Armstead touchdown. Houston QB D'Eriq King coughedĀ the ball up on the next drive and LB Chapelle Russell recovered it to give Temple another short field to work with. King had another fumble on a strip sack by DE Zack Mesday that was recovered by DE Quincy Roche inside the HoustonĀ 30 yardline. The turnover led to another Armstead touchdown to put the Owls up three scores with a quarter and aĀ half left to play in the game.
LB Shaun Bradley led the Owls with 10 tackles and one TFL. SAF Delvon Randall had six tackles and a fourth quarterĀ interception that put the game on ice. DT Michael Dogbe had seven tackles, a sack, and 3.5 TFLs.
LAST TIME vs. USF
The last time Temple and USF played was on September 21, 2017, at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. The gameĀ resulted in a 43-7 win for USF. The Owls couldn't get the offense going and were held scoreless until DL Jacob MartinĀ recovered a fumble and returned it 44-yards for the score. Temple got field goaled to death as the USF kicker hit fiveĀ field goals including two from 44 yards out.
LAST TIME @ LINCOLN FINANCIAL FIELD
