Late Run Lifts Men's Basketball Past Saint Joseph's, 77-70

PHILADELPHIA - After struggling from long range much of the game, a trio of three-pointers by Temple followed the final tie near the five-minute mark, and the Owls (7-1, 2-0 Big 5) led the rest of the way in a 77-70 win over Philadelphia Big 5 rival Saint Joseph's (4-4, 0-1 Big 5).

Game Summary
> The Owls led for less than a quarter of the game, but they took the lead when it counted and maintained it at the free-throw line.
> Temple made an impressive 17-of-18 free throws, the Owls' first .900+ performance (min. 10 attempts) in nearly two years (28-30 vs. Yale, 12/22/16).
> In the final minute and five seconds, the Owls went 8-of-8 at the line, including 4-of-4 by junior Alani Moore II.
> Saint Joseph's led by as many as 11 points late in the first half, and by nine early in the second half before Temple began to chip away.

Individual Highlights
> Senior Shizz Alston, Jr. and junior Quinton Rose scored 15 points apiece to lead Temple.
> Alston went 6-of-6 from the line, dished a game-high six assists and grabbed five rebounds.
> Rose also made all six of his free-throw attempts while adding five assists and two steals.
> Sophomores De'Vondre Perry and J.P. Moorman II scored nine points each, while senior Ernest Aflakpui, Moore II and sophomore Nate Pierre-Louis all scored seven points. Pierre-Louis also tied for game-high honors on the glass, tying his career high with 13 rebounds.
> The Owls' bench scored 24 points overall, compared to just seven for the Hawks' bench.

First Half
> After two early ties and three lead changes, the Hawks took a 16-14 lead and remained ahead for the rest of the first half.
> Temple later went just 1-for-12 over a six-minute stretch as SJU built its lead to eight, and then later to as many as 11, 32-21 with 3:29 to go.
> The Hawks matched that 11 point lead once more at the two-minute mark, and the Owls could come within no fewer than eight points. 
> The third time Temple cut it to eight was just before the buzzer on a driving layup by Moorman, sending the Owls into the break down 41-33.

Second Half
> With 15:49 remaining, Saint Joseph's still led by six, 48-42. Both teams struggled from the field for a long stretch after that, but Rose and Alston each hit two free throws in a 6-0 run to the the game at 48-48 with 11:19 left.
> Four more ties followed, the last at 60-60 with 4:48 on the clock before Moore II, Moorman and Alston each drained a shot from long range in the Owls' 9-0 run.
> Thanks to the Owls' strong showing at the line, the Hawks came within no fewer than seven points the rest of the way.
