12.15.18 | Football
PHILADELPHIA - The Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference announced the honorees for its five major annual awards and the league's All-ECAC selections. Temple saw true freshman OL Adam Klein bring home the Offensive Rookie of the Year, while 12 other Owls found themselves voted onto the All-ECAC teams, including seven first-team and five honorable mention selections.
Klein, from Springfield, Pa., was the only freshman in the nation to start at least nine games at right tackle all season. Temple was one of three teams to start two-or-more true freshmen and the only team to start two at the tackle position (Isaac Moore was the other).
Klein's four partners on the offensive line joined him earning ECAC honors. Graduate LT Jaelin Robinson and redshirt sophomore center Matt Hennessy earned first-team honors while redshirt junior LG Jovahn Fair and redshirt sophomore RG Vincent Picozzi earned honorable mention.
That offensive line helped the Owls average 420.3 yards per game including 164.5ypg on the ground. Temple's offense scored 35.6 points per game, on pace for a school record, while allowing just 15 sacks all season.
The beneficiaries of that outstanding blocking were graduate running back Ryquell Armstead and graduate wide receiver Ventell Bryant. Armstead earned first-team honors following a season where he rushed for 1,098 yards and 13 touchdowns in just 10 games. Bryant, who also received first-team recognition, caught 47 passes for 659 yards and three touchdowns in 2018 and became Temple's all-time leading receiver along the way.
Junior wide receiver Isaiah Wright earned first-team All-America honors as a return specialist and also earned first-team honors from the ECAC. Wright was second in the nation with 976 combined kick return yards and was one of only three players to score on both a kickoff and punt return.
Temple's defense was among the best in the nation and five players were rewarded with ECAC honors. Graduate DT Michael Dogbe and senior CB Rock Ya-Sin earned first-team recognition while senior SAF Delvon Randall, junior LB Shaun Bradley, and redshirt sophomore DT Dan Archibong, who earned ECAC Defensive Rookie of the Year last season, earned honorable mention.
Established in 1938, the ECAC is the nation's largest Conference, ranging in location from Maine to Georgia, and westerly to Missouri. The ECAC hosts numerous championships in men's and women's sports across Divisions I, II and III, offering opportunities for thousands of student-athletes. The ECAC boasts 12 DI - FBS programs on its roster of supporting programs. The FBS programs include: Army, Boston College, UConn, Maryland, UMass, Navy, Penn State, Pitt, Rutgers, Syracuse, and Temple.
