Women's Basketball Falls at #25 South Carolina

Columbia, S.C. — A huge third quarter from #25 South Carolina lifted the Gamecocks to an 88-60 victory over Temple on Friday night at Colonial Life Arena. South Carolina improves to 7-4 overall, while the Owls dip to 3-7.

Keys to the Game
> South Carolina hit eight first half threes, but the Owls trailed by just nine at the break. 
> It was a huge third quarter that decided the game, as the hosts outscored Temple, 27-6, including a 21-1 run to put things away.
> Temple turned the ball over just eight times in the game, while forcing 15 turnovers from South Carolina, as the Gamecocks hot shooting provided the difference.
> SC shot 48.4% from long range, connecting on 15 of 31 attempts, while Temple shot just 23.8% (5-21) from three. 

Individual Highlights
> Junior Shantay Taylor shined with career highs of 14 points and three steals, tying a career best with nine rebounds.
> Graduate student Alliya Butts led the Owls with 19 points and four assists.
> Sophomore Mia Davis, hampered by foul trouble, finished with 10 points and six rebounds.
> Freshman Marissa Mackins added eight points in the loss.

First Quarter
> A hot start from Temple and Taylor saw the junior score seven early points, as Temple led 10-8. 
> South Carolina got hot from three, taking a slim 13-12 lead midway through the action.
> From there, it was a 12-3 Gamecocks run to close the frame with the home team up 25-15.

Second Quarter
> The teams traded threes to open up the frame, before South Carolina went up by 11, its largest lead of the game.
> Temple battled back with a 9-2 run, closing the gap to 38-32 on a Williamson bucket.
> South Carolina finished the frame on a surge, however, taking a 44-35 advantage into the locker room.

Third Quarter
> A huge 27-6 third quarter advantage saw South Carolina run away with things. 
> After a Taylor bucket made it an 11-point deficit, the Gamecocks went on a 21-1 run, to break things open.

Fourth Quarter
> Temple outscored South Carolina 19-18, but the damage was done, as the Owls fell to their third nationally-ranked opponent of the season. 

Up Next
> Temple will take a break for the holidays, returning to the court with a home game on December 30.
> The Owls will face La Salle in that contest, a 2:00 p.m. game at McGonigle Hall.
