Five Notch Hat Tricks as Lacrosse Wins 18-15 at Lafayette

2.25.18 | Women's Lacrosse

EASTON, Pa. - Five players recorded hat tricks in leading Temple lacrosse (3-2) to an 18-15 lead at Lafayette (0-3) on Sunday afternoon. Freshman Jen Rodzewich led the way, scoring her first five career goals while also adding two assists in a huge effort for the Owls. For head coach Bonnie Rosen, the win was the 100th of her Temple career.

Keys to the Game
> The Owls out-shot the Leopards 45-33, with a 30-23 advantage in shots on goal.
> Draw controls favored Temple 20-14, and the Owls cleared the ball on an impressive 14 of 15 tries.
> Temple led by seven at halftime, and by eight with 22 minutes left in the game.
> Over those last 22 minutes, the Leopards outscored the Owls 9-4, but came no closer than the final tally of three.

Individual Highlights
> Rodzewich exploded early, completing the hat trick in just over 10 minutes. She also notched one assist in each half for seven total points.
> The other four players with hat tricks scored three goals each - junior Amber Lambeth, sophomores Maddie Gebert and Olivia Thompson, and freshman Jackie Cerchio.
> It was the first career hat trick for Cerchio, and the second straight for both Gebert and Thompson.
> Sophomore Kara Nakrasius led the Owls with seven draw controls. Cerchio had a team-best four ground balls, and Rodzewich led Temple with three caused turnovers to go with three ground balls.
> In goal, sophomore Maryn Lowell played the complete game to record the win, making eight saves.

First Half
> Rodzewich scored her first career goal five minutes in for a 3-1 lead, and completed the hat trick in just over 10 minutes to give the Owls a 5-2 lead at 19:40.
> Up 7-3, Temple used a 4-0 run to take an 11-3 lead at the 10-minute mark. Senior Toni Yuko and Lambeth each scored free position goals to close out the run.
> Neither team scored for nearly those entire 10 minutes until a last-second Lafayette goal, and Temple took an 11-4 lead into the break.

Second Half
> The Owls were never able to string together more than two goals in a row, but scored often enough to keep Lafayette at bay.
> The Leopards had two separate 3-0 runs, the second coming in the last five minutes as the final three goals of the contest, but came no closer than the three-goal margin.

Quotable
> "I'm really excited with the way we came out and played today. We've been working hard this week it showed, in terms of our development as a whole and or ability to play together. The balanced scoring really sums up the way we played. Everyone seemed ready to go, and some people in new roles came out really strong, especially Jen Rodzewich who made a big impact all over the field. Something we struggled with the past few games was having our focus be too individual, and we really worked this week to play with and for each other." - Bonnie Rosen

Up Next
> Temple will play its next five straight games at home, starting with a 3 p.m contest vs. #8 James Madison on Friday, March 2.
