Football Adds Home-and-Home Series Against Familiar FBS Foes
3.5.18 | Football
PHILADELPHIA – Temple Football announced today two home-and-home scheduling agreements. The Owls will renew rivalries with Akron of the Mid-American Conference, and UMass, who is currently independent.
Temple will travel to Akron on September 11, 2021, and the Zips will come to Philadelphia to start the 2023 season on September 2.
The two teams met 21 times between 1967-2011 with Temple holding a 14-7 advantage. Both teams were members of the MAC from 2007-2011 and met each of those five seasons. Temple won each of those matchups outscoring the Zips 178-46.
Temple will travel to Amherst on October 10, 2020, while the Minutemen come to Philadelphia on September 24, 2022.
The rivalry with UMass is not long but recent. The Owls traveled north for a 25-13 win in 2015 and the Minutemen came to Philadelphia for a 29-21 loss this past season. Those games were played in the homes of the NFL's 2018 Conference Championship games – Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, and Lincoln Financial Field, home to the Philadelphia Eagles. The locations of the future games remain undetermined.
In recent years, Temple announced series' with FBS opponents such as Boston College (ACC), Buffalo (MAC), Duke (ACC), Georgia Tech (ACC), Oklahoma (Big 12), Maryland (Big 10), Miami (ACC), and Rutgers (Big 10).
