Lowell Named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

NEW YORK -- Helping the Owls to a pair of wins last week, sophomore Maryn Lowell BIG EAST Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the third time in her career.
Lowell averaged 10 saves per game as the Owls defeated La Salle and East Carolina. Against the explorers, she tallied 13 saves in an 8-4 defensive battle, while making seven saves in Temple's 15-6 win over the Pirates.
Lowell allowed just 5.0 goals per game while recording a save percentage of .667. She also totaled five ground balls and one caused turnover.
Temple will open BIG EAST play at home, hosting #22 Denver at 1 p.m. on Sunday, March 18.

Julia Feiss, Denver, Jr., A
In a 1-1 week for the nationally ranked Pioneers, Feiss totaled 11 points off nine goals and two assists. Her week was highlighted by an eight-goal, one-assist, nine-point outing in Saturday's 21-10 win over Niagara. Feiss' eight goals tied a program record last achieved by Karen Morton on March 18, 2009 against Stony Brook. She had 8 goals on nine total shots, going 8-8 on shots on goal and 2-2 on free-position shots on Saturday.
BIG EAST Midfielder Of The Week
McKenna Rushford, Cincinnati, So., M
In Cincinnati's lone game of the week, Rushford sparked the offense with six points off five goals and an assist, five draw controls, two ground balls and one caused turnover. The Bearcats topped Campbell 17-11 to improve to 6-1 on the season.

In a 2-0 week for the Owls, Lowell posted a .667 save percentage, 10.0 saves per game and a 5.00 goals against average. The sophomore denied seven shots in Tuesday's win over East Carolina before making 13 saves and allowing just four goals in Monday's win over La Salle. Lowell added five ground balls on the week.
BIG EAST Freshman Of The Week
Ashley Guerra, Butler, Fr., A
Guerra becomes Butler's first BIG EAST Freshman of the week after totaling seven points off five goals and two assists in a pair of games last week. The rookie went for a hat trick and assist against Campbell on Tuesday before tacking on two more goals and a dish at Radford on Saturday. All five shots she took on the week were goals.

Emily Mathewson, Vanderbilt, So., A
Mathewson posted back-to-back four-goal games last week while adding five draw controls. The sophomore provided the double-overtime game-winner against La Salle on Thursday. Mathewson has now scored four or more goals in five of Vandy's seven games this season, and has already surpassed her freshman year totals of 17 goals and 30 points (in 15 games) with 26 goals and 33 points through seven contests this season.
Grace Nolan, Connecticut, Sr., A
In a 1-0 week for the Huskies, Nolan once again paced the team in points and goals boasting six and three respectively. Wednesday's effort marked the attackers seventh straight game she has recorded four or more points and two or more goals. Nolan currently leads the league in points (5.57) and assists (2.29) per game.
Shayna Pirreca, Florida, Sr., A
Pirreca scored a career-high seven points (four goals, three assists) on the road at No. 8 Syracuse. The senior's three assists were a season-high and tied her career-high. Pirreca either scored or assisted on Florida's first five goals, helping the Gators build a 5-3 lead. She also scored UF's final goal of the game with 58 seconds remaining to narrow Syracuse's lead to just two goals.
Jillian Swikart, Villanova, Jr., A
Swikart scored four goals on six shots in Villanova's win on Saturday over Drexel. She went 2-for-2 on free position shots. This was her third four-plus goal game of the season.
