Temple Tulsa Football Game Set for September 20

PHILADELPHIA – The American Athletic Conference announced today that the Temple home game against Tulsa at Lincoln Financial Field will take place on Thursday, September 20. The matchup date, announced in February to be a Thursday or Saturday contest, was confirmed upon release of the National Football League schedule. The game will air nationally on ESPN.
Temple will open with four of its first six games at home at Lincoln Financial Field. The season will kickoff with back-to-back home games against non-conference opponents – Villanova on Sept. 1 and Buffalo on Sept. 8. The Owls hit the road for two non-conference contests against Big 10 Maryland (Sept. 15) and ACC Boston College (Sept. 29), sandwiched around the nationally televised conference tilt against Tulsa.
Temple's schedule includes an even slate of six home and six road games. The bye week will take place the last week of October, after playing eight straight games. The Owls will return from the bye with a nationally televised Thursday night game at UCF on November 1, the conference's undefeated champion a year ago.
Temple's American Athletic Conference slate will begin with Tulsa. Other home conference matchups include ECU (Oct. 6), Cincinnati (Oct. 20), and USF (Nov. 17). The Owls will travel to UCF, Navy (Oct. 13), and Houston (Nov. 10), homes of the last three AAC Conference Championship games. They will also play at UConn to close out the regular season on Nov. 24.
For the fourth straight year, The American will hold a playoff game to crown a Conference Champion. Last year marked the only time that Temple did not take part in the Conference Championship game. The Owls lost to Houston in 2015 and defeated Navy in 2016. Only one team has recorded more than the 18 conference wins that Temple has in the past three seasons or the 22 AAC victories for the Owls in the past four years.
The Owls are coming off three straight seasons with a winning record and a bowl berth. The 2017 season, Collins' first, ended with a 7-6 record and a 28-3 win in the 2017 Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl. Last year's defense ranked first in the conference in passing (206.8 ypg) and sacks (39), and were second in total yards (381.5), scoring (25.8), and tackles-for-loss (102). The Owls' offense finished with 3,273 passing yards and 5,046 total yards, which were second- and third-best in school history, respectively.
