Lacrosse Hosting #24 Georgetown for Senior Day on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - In a must-win situation for the season to continue into the BIG EAST Tournament, Temple lacrosse (9-7, 4-4) will host #24 Georgetown (11-5, 7-1) on Saturday, April 28 at 1 p.m. The Owls' five-member senior class will be honored for Senior Day prior to the start of the game, and the team's adopted sister Lily Adkins will also be recognized for Friends of Jaclyn Day.
Senior Day
> Temple's five seniors (Kira Gensler, Haile Houck, Nicole Latgis, Kaitlin Suzuki and Toni Yuko) have been a part of 45 wins and four winning seasons over their four years.
> As a class, they have scored 52 goals, recorded 14 assists, 66 total points, 153 ground balls, 100 caused turnovers and 67 draw controls.
> They have competed all four years in the highly-competitive BIG EAST Conference, advancing to the championship final two years ago and to the semifinals last year.
> In non-league games, the Owls have gone a remarkable 29-9 over the last four seasons.
> Between the five seniors they have earned 14 BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors, two IWLCA Academic Honor Roll awards and an All-BIG EAST Award.Â

Scouting Temple
> The Owls are facing a must-win against Georgetown, and also need help from other teams in order to earn a spot in the four-team BIG EAST Tournament next week. Marquette must beat UConn, and Denver must lose to Vanderbilt.
> Temple's tournament chances suffered a blow in a very narrow, 14-13 loss at Villanova on April 21. The Owls came all the way back from a five-goal deficit to tie the game with 2:33 remaining, but the Wildcats scored the game-winner with 1:45 to go.
> Sophomore Maddie Gebert scored a career-high six goals at Villanova, and added two assists for a career-high eight points. Gebert, named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, leads Temple with 32 goals and five hat tricks this season.Â
> With six of the Owls' 13 draw controls at Villanova, sophomore Kara Nakrasius now ranks fourth all-time in a single season in program history with 62 total draws.
> Temple's most recent win was a big one over Vanderbilt, 10-5 on April 18. Sophomore goalkeeper Maryn Lowell made 14 saves, her second-most of the season, while Gebert scored three goals. In addition to Lowell's outstanding play defensively, senior Nicole Latgis recorded career highs in both ground balls (nine) and caused turnovers (five), while Nakrasius had four draws, six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
> After a three-game skid in early April, the Owls took down Butler in decisive fashion, winning 18-5 on April 14 behind a career-high six goals from senior Toni Yuko. It was the first hat trick of her career, while sophomore Meghan Hoffman and freshman Bridget Whitaker also recorded their first career hat tricks with three goals each.Â
> The defense has gotten a huge boost from Latgis with a team-best 35 caused turnovers (14th in NCAA DI with 2.27 per game, second in the BIG EAST) and team-best 51 ground balls (also 14th in the nation with 3.19 per game and second in the BIG EAST) along with 41 draw controls.Â
> Three of Temple's six losses have come against teams ranked in the IWLCA Top 10 - #9 Princeton, #7 James Madison and #7 Florida.
Scouting Georgetown
> The Hoyas have been nationally ranked for a number of weeks, getting back into the IWLCA Coaches Poll for the first time since the 2015 season.
> Georgetown is currently ranked 24th with an overall record of 11-5 and a BIG EAST record of 7-1.
> The Hoyas clinched the No. 2 seed in the BIG EAST Tournament with a 9-8 overtime win at home on April 21.
> More recently in a make-up game, Georgetown lost 13-9 vs. #9 Loyola Maryland on April 25.
>Â Junior Taylor Gebhardt leads the Hoyas with 47 goals and 56 total points.
> Behind her is sophomore Michaela Bruno with 35 goals and 11 assists, while sophomore Emily Ehle leads Georgetown with 19 assists.
> Sophomore Natalia Lynch not only boasts 23 goals and 11 assists, but also a team-best 59 draw controls and a team-best 20 caused turnovers.
