Nutile Named to Wuerffel Trophy Watch List

PHILADELPHIA - Temple redshirt senior quarterback Frank Nutile was named to the 2018 Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, recognized as a player who exhibits exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement. He is one of 106 players named to the watch list.
In six starts in 2017 following his insertion into the starting lineup when Logan Marchi suffered an injury, Nutile threw for 1,520 yards, 12 touchdowns, and six interceptions. Overall, he threw for 1,600 yards with 12 TDs and seven INTs. Nutile guided the Owls to three wins in their last four games of the season to make them bowl eligible for the fourth straight years. He also was the spark plug in Temple's 28-3 win over FIU in the 2017 Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl, winning game MVP honors after throwing for 254 yards and two total touchdowns (one passing, one rushing).
The Wuerffel Trophy is presented annually to the college football player who exhibits outstanding community service, along with their achievements on the football field and in the classroom. Named after former University of Florida quarterback and 1996 Heisman Trophy winner Danny Wuerffel, the Wuerffel Trophy is an associate member of the NCFAA and has been presented annually since 2005. This is the second time Nutile has been named to a watch list. He was named to the Maxwell Award List last week. Nutile is one of six Temple player to be named to a preseason award watch list this summer, joining running back Ryquell Armstead (Doak Walker Award), center Matt Hennessy (Rimington Award), safety Delvon Randall (Bednarik Award, Nagurski Trophy, Thorpe Award), wide receiver Isaiah Wright (Hornung Award), and tight end Kenny Yeboah (John Mackey Award).
