Gabriela Johnson Earns American Rookie of the Week Honors

PHILADELPHIA— Freshman forward Gabriela Johnson has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week for her standout efforts in two matches this past week.
Johnson has been a spark for the Owls all season. After falling to SMU in the conference opener on Thursday, the Owls tapped into a new gear, and it was evident in Johnson's play. On Sunday, the Owls defeated Houston 3-2 in an overtime thriller and Johnson scored a brace, including the golden goal. Johnson's game-winner was netted in spectacular fashion in the 95th minute. She employed high-level footwork to shake her defender, spun on a dime and rocketed a beauty into the left upper 90 to give the decision to the Owls and score her second goal of the match and her career.
Next up, Temple returns to the Temple Sports Complex after completing its six-game road stretch to take on UCF. The Owls will face the Knights on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m.
