Volleyball Hosts UConn on Friday Night

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team has a rare conference weekend with only one match, hosting UConn on Friday night at 6:00 p.m. at McGonigle Hall.
THE OWLS
> After finishing the non-conference season with a 3-9 overall record, the Owls opened play in the American Athletic Conference with a road split.
> Temple defeated Houston 3-2 on the road on Friday, but fell 3-0 to SMU on the road on Sunday.Â
> Against Houston, the Owls trailed 2-1 in the match and 21-14 in the fourth set, but completed a stunning comeback, winning 28-26 in the fourth and 15-13 in the fifth to top the Cougars.
> On Sunday, every set was close with SMU, but the Owls ultimately fell 25-21, 26-24, 25-22.
> The Owls are led by junior Dana Westfield's 2.56 kills per set, while Papazoglou adds 2.39 and graduate student Iva Deak, 1.82.
> Senior Hannah Vandegrift leads Temple with 5.30 assists per set, while freshman Tyler Lindgren adds 5.04 assists per set.
> Senior Mia Heirakuji leads the defense with 3.95 digs per frame with senior Carla Guennewig tallying a team-high 1.07 blocks per set.
SCOUTING UCONN
> UConn enters Friday's match with a 9-6 overall record, including 1-1 in conference play.
> The Huskies had the same road trip as Temple did to open the season, with much of the same result, falling to SMU, but defeating Houston.
> UConn is led by Caylee Parker's 3.79 kills per set, while the freshman also adds 2.21 digs per frame.
> Anna Petrova (2.48 k/s) and Danielle Cabel (2.21 k/s) also lead the UConn attack.
> Emma Turner is the primary setter, averaging a conference best 9.93 assists per set.
> Defensively, Elizabeth Kline averages 4.07 digs per set, while Turner adds 2.48.
> At the net, Genna Florig leads UConn with 1.02 blocks per set.
> As a team, the Huskies out-hit opponents, .191 to .179.
TEMPLE VS. UCONN
> Temple leads the all-time series with UConn, 11-4, and have won five-straight against the Huskies.
> The last UConn win in the series came in 2015, a 3-2 win in Storrs, Conn.
