Men's Soccer Closes Four Game Road Stretch at Rider

9.4.18 | Men's Soccer

PHILADELPHIA – The Temple men's soccer squad will travel to Lawrenceville, N.J. on Wednesday, Sept. 5 to take on the Rider Broncs and wrap up their four-game road stint. The Owls look for their second win of the season after defeating the nationally ranked ODU Monarchs this past Sunday.

ABOUT THE OWLS
> Temple is 1-2 on the season, entering Wednesday's match hot off their first win under the new coaching staff.
> Junior midfielder Zach Brown leads the Owls with one goal after burying the header to knock down the nationally-ranked Monarchs.
> Two Owls are tied with one assist apiece, as freshman midfielder Andres Charles-Barrera and sophomore defender Pierre Cayet both played a role in the ODU game-winner.
> Simon Lefebvre and Michael Samnik have split time in the net, tied with four saves on the season. Samnik posted his first shutout of the season against ODU on Sunday.

LAST TIME ON THE PITCH
> In their latest match, Temple defeated No. 25 ODU to capture their first win under Head Coach Brian Rowland. The game-winning, man-down goal was the Owls' first of the season.
> The goal stemmed from a perfectly placed free kick by Charles-Barrera in the 63rd minute of play. Cayet positioned himself at the far post, framed the goal and headed the ball front and center to find the head of Brown, who put it away for his first goal of the season.
> The Owls were able to maintain their lead despite only having 10 players on the field due to a red card assigned in the 56th minute. Samnik was relentless in net finishing with four saves, many of which were sure goals, compared to ODU's one.
> Temple finished the weekend placing second of four teams at the ODU Soccer Classic, landing three players on the All-Tournament squad.
> Following the weekend, Cayet was named the AAC Defensive Player of the Week and Brown was selected to the Weekly Honor Roll. Brown was also named Temple's Under Armour/Owlsports.com Athlete of the Week after scoring the game-winning goal.

SCOUTING RIDER
> After opening the season with a 1-1 tie against Fairleigh Dickinson on Aug. 24, the Broncs fell to NJIT, 1-0, on a late goal in the 88th minute.
> Elliott Otmani scored the Broncs' lone goal on the season, coming from a converted penalty kick in their season opener against Fairleigh Dickinson. He also leads the squad with six shots so far this season.
> Garret Potter has notched all 200 minutes in net for the Broncs this season, entering Wednesday's match with four saves.
> Rider returned six of their seven All-MAAC selections from 2017, including First-Team honorees Otmani, Kouma and Sylvain Coco, Second-Teamers DeCastro and Arthur Herpreck and All-Rookie Team selection Mathis Catanzaro.

ALL-TIME AGAINST RIDER
> Although the Owls lead the all-time series with a record of 28-5-3, Temple looks to snap a two-game losing streak against Rider. When the squads last met in 2017, the Broncs came out on top by scoring the lone goal of the game in the 94th minute of play.

NOTEWORTHY
> The Owls are yet to have an organic goal scored against them this season, as one goal was scored from a corner kick and the other a converted penalty kick.
> Wednesday's match will be the last of four road games for the Owls before they host their home opener this Saturday, September 8th against St. John's.
