Volleyball Plays Two at Villanova this Weekend, Hosts the Wildcats on Sunday

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will take part in the three-day Villanova Classic, playing three total matches this weekend, two at Villanova, and one at Temple. The Owls play High Point (Friday) and Utah (Saturday), before returning home to play Villanova on Sunday at McGonigle Hall.
TEMPLE SCHEDULE
> Friday: Temple vs. High Point, 4:30 p.m. (at Villanova)
> Saturday: Temple vs. High Point, 11:00 a.m. (at Villanova)
> Sunday: Temple vs. Villanova, 1:00 p.m. (at Temple)
THE OWLS
> The Owls are 1-5 to start the season, but have played tough competition in both non-conference tournaments so far.
> Last time out, the Owls lost to three prominent programs at the Penn State Invitational, falling to the host Nittany Lions, to Texas A&M, and to Indiana, which came in a five-set heartbreaker.
> Sophomore Katerina Papazoglou was named to the Penn State Invitational All-Tournament team, after an impressive performance, which included tallying a double-double of 17 kills and 27 digs, both team highs against Indiana.
> The Owls are led by junior Dana Westfield's 2.83 kills per set, while Papazoglou adds 2.40 and freshman Miray Bolukbasi, 2.00.
> Senior Hannah Vandegrift leads Temple with 5.29 assists per set, while freshman Tyler Lindgren adds 4.43 assists per set.
> Senior Mia Heirakuji leads the defense with 3.38 digs per frame with senior Carla Guennewig tallying a team-high 1.09 blocks per set.
SCOUTING HIGH POINT
> High Point enters the weekend with a 1-5 overall mark, but have played tough competition, including a pair of top-10 nationally-ranked opponents.
> The Panthers finished second in the Big South a year ago and earned an at-large bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
> Molly Livingston, the Big South Preseason Player of the Year, leads High Point's offense with 2.55 kills per set, while Katie Tylman is on her heels with 2.45 per frame.
> Madison Smith (2.19 k/s) and Abby Broadstreet (2.00 k/s) round out the high powered offense for the Panthers.
> Jenna Smith has a team-high average of 6.23 assists per set, while Mackze Thornburg adds 5.28 helpers per frame.
> Defensively, Abby Bottomly leads High Point with 5.68 digs per set, while Livingston averages a team-high 0.82 blocks per set.

SCOUTING #21 UTAH
> Utah is 5-1 on the season, recently moving up to #21 in the AVCA Top 25.
> The Utes are coming off a complete sweep of the Montana Volleyball Invite, topping all three opponents -- Montana, Gonzaga, and Iowa State, 3-0.
> Utah is led by Lauga Gauta's massive 4.00 kills per set, with the outside hitter also hitting a stout .310.
> Dani Drews adds 3.76 kills per set, while Megan Yett contributes 2.43 kills per frame, hitting .389.
> Phoebe Grace shores up the middle with 2.14 kills per set, hitting .500, while adding a team-best 1.73 blocks per frame.
