Football Loses High Scoring Matchup to Buffalo 36-29

9.8.18 | Football

PHILADELPHIA- In a back-and-forth matchup all afternoon the Temple Owls and Buffalo Bulls traded scores before the Bulls proved to be too much in the end. Despite two touchdown catches by WR Branden Mack, Temple fell to Buffalo, 36-29, in a game that came down to the last drive of the night.

>Temple began the game by attempting a sky kick that Buffalo recovered on the 50-yard line. Temple stopped the Bulls on a fourth-and-one to begin their first offensive drive.

>After narrowly avoiding a sack, QB Tyree Jackson threw a 33-yard reception to WR Charlie Jones to score first in the game.  A missed extra point kept the score at 6-0 Buffalo.

>QB Anthony Russo and QB Todd Centeio came into the game in a variety of packages for the Owls. Russo completed his first collegiate pass to Brodrick Yancy for 18 yards.

>Taking a shot into the end zone, Nutile had his pass picked off on a 50/50 ball intended for WR Ventell Bryant. The interception led to a 7-play, 63-yard drive capped off by a 22-yard run by RB Kevin Marks. Buffalo attempted a 2-pt conversion, but it was picked off by CB Rock Ya-Sin to keep the score at 12-0 Buffalo.

>Jackson was intercepted again by Rock Ya-Sin to give Temple 1:45 seconds to get down the field and score to end the half.

>Nutile and Co. drove 80-yards on 8 plays to get on the board and cut the lead to 12-7. In the final play of the half, Nutile slung a Hail Mary pass into a crowd of Owls and Bulls that was brought down by WR Branden Mack for the touchdown.

>Temple started out the second half with another scoring drive. Nutile connected with WR Randle Jones on a 44-yard bomb to make the score 14-12 in favor of Temple. It was his first career touchdown catch.

>Nutile threw another interception deep in Owls' territory to set up Buffalo for a 1-yard touchdown run by Kevin Marks to make it 19-14 Buffalo.

>After some back-and-forth, Buffalo drove down the field and kicker Adam Mitcheson hit a 46-yard field goal to make it 22-14 Buffalo.

>Temple backed up Buffalo into its own endzone and was forced to punt. Branden Mack blocked the Buffalo punt and it was recovered by Ty Mason in the endzone for a touchdown. The Owls then set up for a two-point conversion that was completed on an end around reverse pass from Bryant to TE Kenny Yeboah. The game was then tied 22-22.

>Buffalo then countered with an 8-play 58-yard drive that resulted in a 5-yard touchdown catch by WR Antonio Nunn to make it 29-22 Buffalo.

>Temple answered the Buffalo score with a scoring drive of its own. The Owls drove 75 yards on eight plays in 2:52 to tie the game at 29. Nutile threw a 3rd- and goal fade to the corner of the endzone to Mack who brought it in for the score and his second touchdown of the day.

>Buffalo came back down the field 81 yards and scored again on a 29-yard catch-and-run by WR Anthony Johnson. With 0:59 to go the score was 36-29 Buffalo.

>In an attempt to come down and win the game, Nutile was strip-sacked at midfield sealing the win for Buffalo.

>Temple is now 0-2 on the season and will head to Maryland next week in pursuit of its first win of the 2018 season.
