PHILADELPHIA – Temple Football head coach Rod Carey continues to build his football staff with the additions of Mike Uremovich (pronounced you-REM-oh-vitch) and Dan Sabock (pronounced SAY-bock). Uremovich will be co-offensive coordinator and Sabock will be an analyst. All assistant coaches' roles will be more clearly defined once the staff is complete. Both worked with Carey at Northern Illinois University.
"Mike and Dan did a great job for us at NIU and I'm excited to be able to bring them here to Temple," said Carey. "Like the rest of the staff we are assembling, both are excellent coaches and great family men. Mike is a creative offensive mind and will be able to get the most out of the weapons we have here at Temple. Dan is an outstanding coach from a football family, and will work with us in an off-field role as an analyst."
Mike Uremovich joins the Temple Football staff as co-offensive coordinator following three seasons as the assistant head coach and offensive coordinator at NIU. Uremovich had three stints with the Huskies working with head coaches Joe Novak from 2001-02 (graduate assistant), Dave Doeren in 2012 (running backs and special teams coordinator), and then for Carey from 2016-18.
Uremovich coached the offensive line at North Carolina State University from 2013-15, where he helped lead the Wolfpack to a pair of bowl appearances. Between his previous two tenures at NIU, Uremovich had a successful seven-year tenure as head coach of the NAIA University of St. Francis team (2005-11). In 2011, he led the Saints to their most successful season in school history as they won a school-record 10 games. He also had a two-year stint as offensive coordinator at Waynesburg (Pa.) College.
"My family and I are excited to join Coach Carey and the staff here at Temple," said Uremovich. "There are many talented players on the roster and I am looking forward to working with them and continuing the Temple TUFF tradition."
Dan Sabock comes to Temple from NIU as a defensive and special teams analyst. He joined the Huskies' coaching staff in 2017, and led NIU's special teams, an area where the Huskies had a great deal of success. NIU's special teams units blocked two field goals, and four punts in 2017, including two against Ball State. In 2018, Sabock coached the special teams unit which ranked fifth in the country with five blocked kicks.
Before coaching at NIU, Sabock spent five years in Melbourne, Fla., where he was special teams coordinator and inside linebackers coach at Division II Florida Tech, helping the Panthers to the 2016 Division II playoffs. Before Florida Tech, Sabock coached at Indiana State, where he assisted with the outside linebackers and special teams from 2011-12. He began his coaching career at Rutgers, where he worked in player development and helped coach the Scarlet Knights' secondary in 2010 and 2011.
"I'm very excited to continue working with Coach Carey," said Sabock. "I'm also very eager to begin working with the Temple team."
