1.23.19 | Football

PHILADELPHIA – Temple Football head coach Rod Carey continues to build his football staff with the additions of Matt Lipman, Aaron Christner and Blake Yunker. All three had worked with Carey at Northern Illinois University.

"Matt, Aaron and Blake did a great job for us at NIU and I'm excited to be able to bring them here to Temple," said Carey. "They will keep the football program functioning at a high level from an operations standpoint."

Matt Lipman joins Temple as assistant athletic director/chief of staff following eight years as assistant athletic director for football operations at Northern Illinois University. In the role, Lipman will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Temple football program, including organizing team travel, planning recruiting visits, coordinating team meals and meetings. He will serve as the Owls' liaison to NFL scouts, and he and his staff will coordinate many of the team's community service activities.

Lipman was elevated from director to assistant athletic director of football operations following the NIU's 2011 MAC championship season. He joined the NIU staff after working as the assistant director of football operations at Wisconsin in 2010. Lipman served two stints with his hometown Cleveland Browns of the National Football League. In between tenures with the Browns, Lipman worked as a scout for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.

"I've worked with Coach Carey since he became a head coach six years ago," said Lipman, "and I look forward to continuing with that. He's an outstanding coach and a great family man. My family and I are excited to be joining him at Temple. I am eager to now be a part of the Temple family. To continue to work with Coach Carey and his staff is a wonderful opportunity. I know that there are greater days ahead for this program."

Aaron Christner arrives at Temple as director of operations following seven seasons with Northern Illinois University's football team. After two seasons as a graduate assistant in football operations, he was promoted to a full-time position and was in that role for five years at NIU.

Prior to NIU, Christner worked as a football operations intern for the Baltimore Ravens. As an undergraduate student at Iowa, the Cedar Rapids native worked as a student football operations manager.

"I'm so appreciative of Coach Carey to give me this opportunity," said Christner. "I learned some great things over the years at NIU and am excited to bring those ideas to Temple."

Blake Yunker, Temple's video coordinator, spent 2018 with the NIU as a graduate assistant working in football operations. The Bryan, Ohio, native played offensive line at Concordia University for a season before transitioning into his three-year stint as a student assistant with the football program.

"What a great opportunity to continue working with Coach Carey," said Yunker. "I was able to learn a lot from Matt and Aaron at NIU and I'm anxious to continue working with them."
