PHILADELPHIA – Temple Football head coach Rod Carey continues to build his football staff with the additions of Steve Crutchley, Jake Landry, and Tyler Yelk as analysts. All three had worked with Carey at Northern Illinois University.

"Steve, Jake and Tyler are excellent football and family men and I'm excited to be able to bring them here to Temple," said Carey. "We have great history together and I look forward to an even brighter future here at Temple."

Steve Crutchley worked with the wide receivers while on staff at NIU. In 2017, Crutchley tutored three receivers with 40-or-more catches. It was the first time since 2011, three different Huskies' wide receivers tallied 40-or-more receptions in the same season. Spencer Tears led the way with 43 catches for 528 yards, while Christian Blake amassed 442 yards on a career-high 41 receptions. D.J. Brown made a big leap from his sophomore to junior year, establishing career highs in catches (42) and receiving yards (365) in 2017.

Before being hired at NIU, Crutchley was head coach at Eau Claire (Wisc.) Memorial in 2016. From 2013-2015 he was an assistant head coach at Western Illinois University. He worked with the running backs at Southern Illinois University from 2008-12. Crutchley began his collegiate coaching career at St. Cloud State University where he served as wide receivers coach and assistant life skills director from 2002-2007.

"I'm very excited to be joining Coach Carey and the staff here at Temple," said Crutchley. "We've had success together at NIU and I can't wait to build something special at Temple."

Jake Landry spent four seasons at NIU. He worked with the quarterbacks (2013, 2015) and linebackers (2014) as a graduate assistant and rejoined the staff in 2018 as the running backs coach. Before going back to NIU, Landry spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons as the offensive coordinator at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse, where he led the offense to two of the most productive season in program history.

Before heading to NIU, Landry began his coaching career spending two seasons coaching the wide receivers while a graduate assistant at Minnesota-Duluth. A four-year letterwinner at North Dakota from 2007-10, Landry was the team's starting quarterback and served as team captain his last two seasons when Carey was a member of the Fighting Hawks' staff.

"I've been with Coach Carey as a player and a coach and I'm looking forward to working with him again," said Landry. "I am excited to join the staff here at Temple and look forward to being a part of both the football program and university."

Tyler Yelk spent the 2018 season as the safeties coach at NIU following two seasons at South Dakota where he served as co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach. In 2017, South Dakota ranked first in the Missouri Valley Football Conference and 12th nationally in both sacks and tackles for loss.

Yelk coached defensive backs and special teams at Western Illinois in 2013-14 before being named co-defensive coordinator in 2015. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Minnesota-Duluth, from 2009-12.

"This is a great opportunity to follow Coach Carey to Temple," said Yelk. "I enjoyed working with him and the staff at NIU and look forward to helping take the Temple program to the next level."
