Women's Rowing Opens Fall Head Racing at Navy Day

PHILADELPHIA — The Temple women's rowing team opened the fall racing season with a solid competition at the 2019 Navy Day Regatta. The Owls competed in five different events, coming home with four total medals.
Pairs
> Temple nabbed four of the top five spots in the pairs race, sweeping the medal finishes.
> Elaine Tierney and Nadia Bangura won the event in 16:11.34 and they were followed by teammates Gabby DiMarco and Christina Hostetter in 16:21.76. Close behind were Kerianne McGee and Claire Savage taking third in 16:27.52.
> Catherine Pazderski and Rylie Hager rounded out the Owls' finishers in the event, taking fifth in 16:38.81.
Four
> Temple had three boats in the collegiate four races, with two boats in the top 10.
> Temple's "B" boat was its highest finished in a stacked field, taking eighth in 15:42.80. Right behind was the Owls' "A" boat, under two seconds off the pace, taking 10th in 15:43.59.
> The Owls also had boats finished in 15th and 16th, as the "C" crew clocked in at 15:59.94, and the "D" boat just behind with a time of 15:59.94.
Novice Eight
> The Owls' novice eight boat nabbed a bronze medal finish, taking third behind Navy and Marist. Temple crossed the finish in a time of 16:42.48.
Second Varsity Eight
> The Owls second varsity eight boat finished fifth overall in a stacked field. Penn took the title, followed by two Georgetown boats, and Villanova. The Owls finished in 14:47.26 in the 16-boat field.
Varsity Eight
> Temple notched a sixth place finish from its "A" boat in the collegiate eight field, which featured 29 boats.
> The Owls top crew recorded a time of 13:54.63 to finish sixth, while the "B" boat finished in 16th in 14:31.49.
