Temple Cracks Top 25 in USA Today Coaches Poll

10.13.19 | Football

PHILADELPHIA – Following its 30-28 win over the #23 Memphis Tigers on Saturday, Temple Football has received recognition from the national voters.

The Owls received 31 votes in the Associated Press poll, the 28th best total in the nation. In the USA Today Coaches Poll, Temple cracked the Top 25, earning the #25 position.

This is the first time that Temple is ranked in the Top 25 since December 2016, when it won the American Athletic Conference Title over Navy and earned a #23 national ranking in the College Football Playoff Poll.

Among schools outside of the Power 5, only Boise State (14), SMU (19), Cincinnati (21), Appalachian State (24), and Tulane (26) rank higher in the AP Poll. In the Coaches Poll, Temple was more appealing than Missouri, Tulane, and Iowa State, creating the jump into the Top 25.

Two victories over ranked teams this season – then #21 Maryland in week 2 and this past week against #23 Memphis – have garnered attention for the Owls. It marked the first time in program history that Temple defeated more than one ranked opponent in one season. Temple will have another opportunity to impress the panel again this Saturday when they travel to SMU to face the #19 Mustangs.
