Noon-time "School Day" Match Kicks Off Volleyball's Home Conference Weekend

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple volleyball team will host UConn on Friday at noon to kick-off a two match home conference weekend. The Owls will also take on Houston, Sunday at 1:00 p.m. with both matches taking place at McGonigle Hall. 

SCHOOL DAY
> Temple is hosting its first ever "School Day" volleyball match on Friday, beginning the action at noon.
> The Owls are expecting a contingent of students from local schools, and will provide a fun and educational event for all attendees.

JUNIOR OWLS CLUB DAY
> Sunday's match will serve as Junior Owls Club Day, with the team hosting a post-match clinic, as well as an autograph session.
> The match will also be Girl Scout Day.

OWL ABOUT TEMPLE
> Temple is 9-4 to start the season, 0-2 in conference play. The Owls have lost four straight matches since going 9-0 to open the year.
> The 9-0 start to the season was the best start in program history for Temple. During that streak, the Owls went 27-2 in sets, recording 3-0 sweeps in eight of their first nine matches.
> Temple is led offensively by sophomore Gem Grimshaw's 3.30 kills per set, while junior Katerina Papazogou adds 2.67 kills per frame.
> Sophomore Tyler Lindgren is the primary setter, dishing out 9.10 assists/set.
> At the net, freshman Kayla Spells leads Temple with 1.00 blocks per set, while sophomore Peyton Boyd adds 0.73 per frame.
> Defensively, junior Averi Salvador tops the Owls with 4.98 digs per set.
> Temple's offense ranks fifth in the conference at .222, while the Owls are holding opponents to a .180 attack, third in the league.
> Individually, Salvador ranks fourth in the conference in digs per set while Lindgren is fourth in assists per set.

SCOUTING UCONN
> UConn enters this weekend's match with a 7-7 overall record, with a 1-1 mark in conference play.
> The Huskies are coming off a split in the opening weekend of league play, falling 3-0 at UCF and winning 3-0 at USF.
> UConn is led by Caylee Parker who averages 3.49 kills per set, while Kennadie Jake-Turner (2.20 kills/set) and Jasmine Davis (2.00 kill/set) also aid the attack.
> Parker is UConn's top defensive player as well, tallying 2.45 digs per set on the season.
> Courtney Morris runs the offense to the tune of 8.18 assists per frame, while Genna Florig tops the Huskies at the net with 1.06 blocks per set.
> As a team, UConn hits .206 while opponents are hitting .184 against the Huskies.

TEMPLE VS. UCONN
> Temple is 12-5 all-time against UConn, with the teams splitting last year.
> The Huskies won the first meeting in 2018, winning 3-1 in Temple's McGonigle Hall.
> The Owls returned the favor, tallying a 3-1 in Storrs to close out the 2018 season.

SCOUTING HOUSTON
> Houston carries an 8-9 overall record into Sunday's match-up, with a perfect 2-0 mark in conference play.
> The Cougars recorded matching 3-2 wins over SMU and Memphis at home last weekend.
> Houston's offense stars Katie Jackson, who averages 3.57 kills per set, a number that ranks seventh in the American Athletic Conference. She also leads the team with 21 total aces.
> Also adding to the Houston attack is Megan Duncan, who tallies 2.77 kills per set, while Abby Irvine leads the team with 8.28 assists per set.
> Katie Karbo leads the Cougars, and is second in the conference, with 5.33 digs per set.
> At the net, Rachel Tullos has averaged 1.24 blocks per set this season.
> As a team, Houston hits .164 on the season, while opponents hit .206 against the Cougars.

TEMPLE VS. HOUSTON
> Temple is 8-3 all-time against Houston and have won six in a row against the Cougars.
