PHILADELPHIA-  Temple football alum and current Ottawa Redblacks LB Avery Williams earned Most Outstanding Player and Most Outstanding Defensive player awards for his play this season. Now that Williams has won his team award, he is now in contention for the CFL's league award. The six team award-winners from each CFL club will advance to the next stage of voting in the lead up to the 2019 Shaw CFL Awards. The 2019 Shaw CFL Awards will take place on Thursday, November 21 in Calgary.

Award recipients were selected by voting members of the Football Reporters of Canada and CFL head coaches. In 11 games played so far in 2019, Williams has tallied 70 tackles and a sack. He had a significant improvement from last season when he finished with 49 tackles and a sack. Williams' best game this season came against Hamilton when he had 12 tackles. The Redblacks final regular season game is Friday, November 1 against the Montreal Alouettes.

Williams, a Baltimore native, was a three year letter winner (2014-16) at Temple and was a force in the second level of the defense. He was also one of the toughest players on the team, and wore a single-digit #2 from 2014-16. Williams was a part of the 2016 conference championship team and the 2015 team that made an appearance in the conference championship. He finished his Temple career with 154 tackles, three sacks, and one interception in 47 games played.
