Football Hosts #23 Memphis for Homecoming Showdown

The Owls are 4-1 and 1-0 in the conference after beating ECU 27-17, in Greenville. Now, Temple will host a ranked team for the second time this season as the Owls take on the #23 Memphis Tigers on Saturday for homecoming. Kickoff is set for Saturday, October 12, at 12:00 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN2, 97.5 The Fanatic, and WHIP Radio.

Last Week
Against ECU, the Owls were able to establish a solid run game and suffocate the ECU offense in order to grind out a tough conference road victory. Re'Mahn Davis had a continues to set the pace for true freshmen, rushing 24 times for 157 yards and a touchdown. His backfield mate, senior Jager Gardner, had 14 carries for 60 yards and a touchdown as well in his home state of North Carolina. QB Anthony Russo managed the game well for the Owls. He finished with 208 yards and a touchdown on 23 completions. WR Isaiah Wright caught nine passes for 104 yards and a touchdown and WR Branden Mack also caught nine passes for 107 yards. QB Todd Centeio was brought in at the end of the first quarter for a series and he helped kick-start the offense. Centeio led the offense down the field with his rushing and passing attack that led to a field goal and the Owls' first score of the game.

The defense was the highlight of the day once again for Temple. The Owls shut down ECU on third down (2-14) and Temple dominated time of possession (35:15-24:45) The defense as a whole continues to prove their dominance every week, this week SAF Benny Walls (eight tackles and one QB hurry) led the team in tackles again. DT Ifeanyi Maijeh was in the backfield causing havoc again (six tackles, two TFLs, a sack, and two QB hurries) and DE Dana Levine got in the mix as well (three tackles, a sack, two TFLs, and three QB hurries). DE Qunicy Roche, sporting his new #9 jersey, had two tackles, a sack, two TFLs, a PBU, and two QB hurries in the contest. Temple's defense continues to prove why it's one of the most dominant in the conference. The Owls only allowed 327 total yards (229 passing and 98 rushing) compared to its 490 yards (253 passing and 237 rushing). 

Last Time vs. Memphis
The last time Temple and Memphis faced off was October 6, 2016. The Owls dropped the contest 34-27 and moved to 3-3 and 1-1 in the conference. Despite the loss, QB Phillip Walker threw for 445 yards, which remains tied for the most passing yards in a game from a Temple QB with Henry Burris. It would be their only conference loss of the year, as the Owls would go on a seven-game winning streak, culminating in an AAC Championship with a win at #20 Navy, 34-10.

Last Time vs. Memphis @ Lincoln Financial Field
The last time Temple and Memphis went head-to-head in Philadelphia was November 21, 2015. Similarly to this season, both teams are coming into the game with wins over Power Five teams earlier in the season. Temple outrushed Memphis 200-76 and 261 passing yards from Phillip Walker propelled the Owls to a 31-12 win. The win improved Temple's record to 9-2 and helped win the AAC East Division crown and an AAC Championship Game appearance.

Temple will head down to Dallas to take on AAC West foe, #23 SMU Mustangs, who are 6-0. Kickoff is set for 3:30pm ET and will air on ESPN2 and 97.5 The Fanatic.
