Football's Isaiah Wright Earns Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll

10.7.19 | Football

Louisville, Ky. - Two seniors, a junior, a sophomore and a freshman were named to the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll in week six of the college football season: Amare Jones, Tulane running back/kick returner; Javon Leake, Maryland running back/kick returner; Wan'Dale Robinson, Nebraska wide receiver/kick returner; Rodney Smith, Minnesota running back/kick returner and Temple senior wide receiver and returner Isaiah Wright.

Wright touched the ball three different ways and scored the winning touchdown on a six-yard reception to close the third quarter as the Owls beat East Carolina 27-17 on the road. Wright had nine catches for 104 yards, returned a punt 14 yards and added a 53-yard kickoff return that set up a second quarter touchdown. Five of his catches led to first downs. Temple now is 4-1 on the season. Wright ranks third in the AAC and 21st in FBS averaging 130.8 all-purpose yards per game. He is also third in the AAC and 13th in FBS with 3-7 combined kick return yards.

The Paul Hornung Award presented by Texas Roadhouse, now in its 10th season, is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission and football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung. The winner and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award dinner at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville on March 4, 2020.

The Louisville Sports Commission successfully launched the Paul Hornung Award in 2010 to honor its namesake and native son, and to promote outstanding performances by versatile college football players who often go unnoticed. Each week during the season, a panel of college football experts selects players for the Paul Hornung Award Honor Roll based on performance. A national selection committee comprised of 17 sports journalists and former NFL stars votes for the Hornung Award finalists and the winner, with fan voting powered by Texas Roadhouse comprising the 18th vote. Regional accounting firm Dean Dorton independently tabulates all votes. For more information, visit www.paulhornungaward.com.
