Temple Volleyball Falls at Cincinnati

11.1.19 | Women's Volleyball

CINCINNATI — The Temple volleyball team dropped a 3-0 road match at Cincinnati on Friday night, dropping a 25-13, 25-14, 25-18 contest to the league-leading Bearcats. Cincinnati improves to 19-5 overall (10-1 AAC), while Temple dips to 11-11, 2-9 in conference play.

Keys to the Match
> Temple's offense couldn't put things together, hitting just .101 to Cincinnati's .365.
> Defensively, Temple was out-dug 52-38, while blocks ended in the Owls' favor, 6-5.
> The first two sets followed similiar patterns, as Cincinnati opened with large leads before Temple battled to cut each set to just a few points midway throw play.
> However, in both the first two frames, Cincinnati used huge runs to secure a 2-0 match lead.
> Temple stayed in the third set until late, but a 5-1 run closed the set and match for the Bearcats.

Individual Highlights
> Sophomore Peyton Boyd led the Owls with nine kills, hitting .357 for the match.
> Sophomore Gem Grimshaw picked up six kills with six digs.
> Sophomore Tyler Lindgren had 10 assists with seven kills.
> Junior Katerina Papazoglou tallied eight digs to lead Temple, while classmate Averi Salvador added six.
> Freshman Naomi Janetzke led the Owls with four blocks, while classmate Kayla Spells had three.

Set One: Cincinnati 25, Temple 13
> After a quick Westfield kill to start the match for the Owls, Cincinnati took over. The Bearcats went on an 11-2 run to lead by eight.
> Temple battled back to get the lead down to four, 14-10, but again Cincinnati made a run.
> The Bearcats scored four unanswered as part of a 9-4 closing run to lead 1-0 in the match.

Set Two: Cincinnati 25, Temple 14
> Another hot Cincinnati start saw the hosts quickly run up a 9-3 score.
> Temple put together a long run of their own, closing the gap to three, with a 9-2 run.
> Leading 15-12, Cincinnati followed the first set script again, using a 10-2 run to close the frame and lead 2-0.

Set Three: Cincinnati 25, Temple 18
> The closest of the three sets featured nine ties, but in the end, it was Cincinnati that finished it out.
> Tied as late as 15-15, Cincinnati created separation with a 5-2 surge to go up 20-17.
> That was as close as the Owls would get, as the Bearcats closed the set and match with a 5-1 run.
