Men's Basketball Opens Big 5 Play at La Salle Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – Aaron McKie will get to experience Big 5 play Saturday for the first time as a head coach when Temple travels to La Salle for a 2 pm tip-off (ESPN+/1210 AM WPHT).  It is the first of five straight games away from home for the Owls (2-0).

Scouting Temple
> Junior Nate Pierre-Louis, the reigning American Athletic Conference and Big 5 Player of the Week, leads the Owls in scoring (17.5 ppg.), rebounding (10.5 rpg.), steals (5.5 spg.), assists (4.5 apg.) and blocks (2).  He has posted three consecutive double-doubles becoming the first Owl to accomplish the feat since Lavoy Allen (2011).
> Seniors Quinton Rose (15.0 ppg.) and Alani Moore II (11.5 ppg) are also averaging in double figures.  Rose, who has scored in double figures in seven straight games, is 17 points away from 1,400 for his career while Moore leads the squad in three-pointers (5) and ranks second in assists per game (3.5).
> Juniors J.P. Moorman II (6.0 ppg., 6.0 rpg.) and Justyn Hamilton (4.0 ppg., 3.5 rpg.)  round out the starters while junior De'Vondre Perry (9.0 ppg) and senior Damion Moore (4.0 ppg., 5.5 rpg.) lead a deep Temple bench.
> The Pierre-Louis brothers made history as the first siblings to play in a Temple game together.  A freshman, Josh Pierre-Louis has averaged 2.5 points and eight minutes per game in a reserve role.

Scouting La Salle
> La Salle, under the direction of second-year coach Ashley Howard, is off to a 1-1 start with a 70-64 home overtime win over Iona (Nov. 9) and a 75-59 road loss to Big 5 Rival Penn Wednesday.
> Explorers return six letterwinners, including three starters from last year's team that posted a 10-21 record. La Salle has been picked to finish 10th of the 14 A-10 teams in the league's preseason poll.
> Sophomore Ed Croswell leads a balanced La Salle attack with a 10.0 scoring average.  Senior Isaiah Deas (9.5 ppg.), junior David Beatty (8.5 ppg.), freshman Ayinde Hikim (8.0 ppg.) and redshirt Scott Spencer (7.00 ppg.) are close behind Croswell.   Spencer (7.5 rpg.) and Beatty (6.0 rpg.) are the Explorers top rebounders.

Series History vs. La Salle
> Temple and La Salle are for the 120th time, with the Owls holding a strong, 77-42 advantage in the series.
> The Owls have won four of the last five meetings between the schools with the lone Explorer win coming in the last contest at Tom Gola Arena, 87-83, on Nov. 26, 2017.
> The Owls have also won 20 of the last 25 meetings, including eight straight from 2010-2013.
