Big Second Half Pushes Temple Past Bucknell

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Three players scored in double-digits as Temple topped Bucknell 72-61 Wednesday night at Sojka Pavilion. The Owls improve to 4-2 on the year while the Bison fall to 2-3.
Keys to the Game
> Temple registered a season-best 55.1% from the field, going 27-for-49 from the floor.Â
> Bucknell outrebounded the Owls 33-32, including 16 offensive boards that led to 13 second-chance points for the Bison.Â
> After trailing at halftime, Temple finished the second half outscoring Bucknell 40-28.
> The Owls shot 78.6% from the foul line while Bucknell recorded a 71.4% free throw percentage.Â
> The Bison were held to a 20.8% three-point shooting percentage, making only five from beyond the arc. Temple finished 7-for-16 (48.3%) from three-point range.

> Ashley Jones led all players with a career-high 24 points. The redshirt sophomore added five rebounds and two assists to her stat line.Â
> Mia Davis registered her fourth double-double of the season with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
> Lena Niang poured in a season-best 17 points as she knocked down a career-high four three-pointers. Niang collected four boards and added a monster block for the Owls.Â
> Shannen Atkinson was a force in the post, tying her career-high of four blocks.Â
> Rookie Asonah Alexander led Temple in assists as she tied her career-high of eight.Â
First Quarter
> The first stanza started slow with the game tied 2-2 for almost three minutes. Davis broke the silence with her first bucket of the game.Â
> Jones knocked down a three to give Temple a three-point lead, but Taylor O'Brien made two strong drives for the Bison down the stretch to give Bucknell an edge.Â
> The Bison ended the first quarter with an 18-12 lead. Bucknell went a perfect 6-for-6 at the foul line following five fouls committed by Temple.
Second Quarter
> Tessa Brugler opened the scoring in the second quarter as she was fouled on a made layup. The forward completed the three-point play with a good free throw. Â
> Niang kept the Owls within just a few points of the Bison, scoring 10 points in the second frame.Â
Third Quarter
> The first half of the third quarter started slow with Bucknell scoring five points and Temple scoring four in the first five minutes.Â
> The action started to pick up once Alexa Williamson was fouled and made one-of-two foul shots to bring the Owls within one point.Â
> Temple took the lead at the 4:30 mark following a Davis jumper.Â
> Niang extended the lead to four on her third trey of the game.Â
> Davis added another jumper and two foul shots while Jones chipped in two buckets to give Temple a six-point advantage heading into the final quarter.Â
