Football Hits the Road for Tampa on Thursday

11.4.19 | Football

THIS WEEK
The Owls are 5-3 and 2-2 in the conference after losing to UCF 63-21 two weekends ago. Following the bye week, Temple heads to Tampa to take on the USF Bulls. The Owls hope to right the ship following back-to-back loses and get another road conference win in this primetime Thursday Night matchup. Temple is 12-9 on Thursday nights all time, including 7-4 mark since 2014. Kickoff is set for Thursday, November 7, at 8:00 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN and 97.5 The Fanatic.

LAST WEEK
Against UCF, the Owls suffered their first home loss of the season and snapped an eight-game home win streak. It was also the second loss in a row for the Owls. Temple had a tough stretch in the middle of the schedule playing Memphis, SMU, and UCF consecutively. In a very competitive and exciting AAC this season, those have been the top three scoring teams so far this season, and all rank in the top 10 nationally.

Temple started off strong against the Knights, but failed to keep it going in the second half in order to stay competitive with UCF. Temple only trailed 28-21 at halftime but the Owls were shutout in the second half and didn't have very much luck stopping UCF either. The Knights put up five unanswered touchdowns in the second half to finish the game. QB Anthony Russo did connect with WR Randle Jones for a 32-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give Temple a 7-0 lead. Jones has been out this season due to injury but showed a glimpse of what he is capable of when healthy. Russo also hit WR Branden Mack for a 75-yard score to cut the UCF lead to 21-14 in the second quarter. The Owls couldn't get the running game going in the second half, and had a really tough time slowing down the potent Knight's offense.

LAST TIME VS. USF
The last time Temple and USF faced off was on November 17, 2018 on Senior Day. The Owls trailed the Bulls 17-0 at halftime, but held them scoreless in the second half and scored 27 unanswered points to win the game, 27-17. The Owls took their first lead with 10 minutes left to play. WR Isaiah Wright fielded a punt and took it 73-yards for a touchdown to put the Owls ahead 20-17. Temple forced five turnovers in the second half, highlighted by a game-sealing strip sack by DE Dana Levine that was recovered by LB Chapelle Russell in the endzone for a touchdown.

LAST TIME VS. USF @ RAYMOND JAMES STADIUM
The last time Temple and USF faced off at Raymond James Stadium was on September 21, 2017. Temple went down hard in a 43-7 loss. DE Jacob Martin scored the only touchdown for the Owls on a 44-yard fumble recovery.

UP NEXT
Temple will host Tulane on Saturday, November 16, 2019. Kickoff is set for 12:00pm and the game will air on ESPNU, 97.5 The Fanatic, and WHIP Radio.
