Seamus O'Connor Resigns as Temple Women's Soccer Coach
11.4.19 | Women's Soccer
PHILADELPHIA – Seamus O'Connor, who guided the Temple University women's soccer program for the last seven years, announced that he will resign his position as head coach, effective immediately.
"I am truly thankful to have served as the head coach of the Temple women's soccer program for the last seven years and would like to thank our Athletic Director Dr. Patrick Kraft for the opportunity," said O'Connor. "I have had the pleasure of working with some fine coaches and exceptional young women. I have watched our players grow, both on the field and in life. Although it is not an easy decision to leave at this time, it is the right time for me and my family to look for a new challenge in the soccer world."
O'Connor took over as head coach in 2013 after spending two seasons as an assistant coach. During his tenure, Temple posted a 50-73-11 overall record and advanced to the American Athletic Conference Tournament in four of his seven seasons. In 2014, his second season at the helm, Temple tied the school record for wins in a season, posting an 11-8-1 overall record. The following season, 2015, he led the Owls to a record 12 wins, and posted a 4-4-1 AAC mark, the best since joining the league.
"I want to thank Seamus for his dedication and service to our University and to the young women who came through his program," said Temple University Director of Athletics Dr. Patrick Kraft. "We wish him all of the best in his future endeavors. We will begin a national search to find the right person to lead the program forward and I am confident that with our support of the program, we will attract a strong pool of coaching candidates."
