Balanced Attack Leads Men’s Basketball to 75-57 Win Over Morgan State

PHILADELPHIA – Junior Nate Pierre-Louis posted his second straight double-double of the season to lead Temple men's basketball to a 75-57 win over visiting Morgan State Saturday in front of 5,889 fans at the Liacouras Center. Pierre-Louis, who led all scorers and rebounders with 19 points and 11 boards, was one of four Owls in double figures for the contest. The Owls improved to 2-0 under first year coach Aaron McKie while Morgan State falls to 1-1.
Summary
> Pierre-Louis, who became the first Owl with three consecutive double-doubles (also Belmont game, 3/19/19) since Lavoy Allen (2011), also had game highs in steals (6) and assists (5).
> Temple reached double figures in steals (14) for the second straight game and scored 27 points off turnovers compared to two for the Bears.

> The Owls took the lead on an Alani Moore three at the 17:02 mark and held it for all but one minute the rest of the opening period.
> Rose had five points in a 14-5 run that lifted Temple to its biggest first half margin, 26-16, at the 7:45 mark. Back-to-back three-pointers by Isaiah Burke (11 points) in a 26 second stretch quickly closed the gap to 26-22.
> Nate Pierre-Louis then made two steals and baskets and dished to Alani Moore to again put Temple ahead by ten points, 32-22.
> Each team had five point runs over the final three minutes with the Owls holding a 37-27 lead at the break.
Second Half
> Morgan State cut the deficit to six twice over the first nine minutes, the last on a three-point play by Stanley Davis, Jr. (10 pts) with 11:16 to play.
> Temple then used a 9-3 run with the second of two Perry three-pointers capping it as the Owls matched their largest lead, 58-46, with just under nine minutes remaining.
> The Owls kept the lead in double-figures the remainder of the contest, extending it to 16 points (64-48) three minutes later on a pair of Perry free throws.
> The Bears made one final attempt to come back, whittling the deficit to 67-56 with 3:46 to play, but the Owls then ramped up the defense in closing out the game on an 8-1 run.
