12.10.19 | Women's Cross Country
PHILADELPHIA – Temple University women's cross country runners Millie Howard and Michelle Joyce were named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Cross Country team.
The Owls' duo is joined on the Academic All-Area team by St. Joseph's Elaine Estes, Rowan's Dianne Ferraro, La Salle's Grace Mancin, Penn State-Brandywine's Catharine Mooney, Penn's Maddie Villalba and Villanova's Lydia Oliviere, who was named the 2019 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Cross Country Performer of the Year. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of 30 institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.Â
Howard earned All-Region honors in the final cross country race of her career after placing 22nd in the 6K at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional with a time of 20:46.0, which was faster than her 5K race at the American Athletic Conference Championship. The economics major has also worked hard in the classroom, making Dean's List every semester she has been at Temple and finishing five of her six semesters with a 4.0 GPA.Â
Joyce began her third season in the Cherry and White with a top-10 finish at the Iona Meet of Champions to lead the Owls. The junior then earned All-Conference for the third-straight year following her 15th overall finish at the American Athletic Conference Championship. The bioengineering major has been named to the Dean's List four times and has finished three of her four semesters on Broad Street with a 4.0 GPA. Joyce, who has a passion for research on prosthetics, earned the Livingstone Undergraduate Research Award for her research on osteoarthritis that commonly develops through gait compensation when someone walks with a prosthetic.  Â
