2.12.19 | Women's Lacrosse
PHILADELPHIA - Three straight road games are on tap for Temple lacrosse, and the Owls (1-0) will look for their first win at Rutgers (1-0) on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 4:30 p.m. Temple has a strong, 21-8 lead in the all-time series and won 12-8 at home last season. The game was originally scheduled for Feb. 12, but was moved due to inclement weather.
Scouting Temple
> The Owls played strong defense but struggled to score in a 7-4 season-opening loss to Delaware on Feb. 8. The game was knotted at 3-3 before the Blue Hens took over in the latter part of the first half, and Delaware's goalkeeper made 20 saves to thwart Temple offensively.
> Junior Maddie Gebert, the Owls' leading scorer with 33 goals a year ago, scored twice against Delaware while junior Olivia Thompson and sophomore Jen Rodzewich scored one goal apiece.
> Four team captains have been chosen to lead the Owls in 2019: seniors Kelsea Hershey, Amber Lambeth and Thompson along with junior Kara Nakrasius.
> Last year's Owls went 9-8 overall, achieving their fourth straight winning season.
> Lambeth, Nakrasius and Gebert were all named to the Preseason All-American Athletic Conference Team in a vote by the league's eight head coaches.
> After five years as an associate member of the Big East Conference, Temple begins its first season in the American Athletic Conference which is sponsoring women's lacrosse for the first time ever. The Owls will play their first AAC game at home against preseason #6 Florida on March 30 after playing 10 non-conference contests.
> With 64 draw controls, Nakrasius finished the 2018 season tied for third all-time at Temple in a single season. Â
> Goalkeeper Maryn Lowell, returning for her junior year, was named the IWLCA National Defensive Player of the Week on March 21 of last season after the Owls' upset of #22 Denver in which she made 12 saves, including one with 20 seconds left to prevent overtime.
> Head coach Bonnie Rosen, now in her 13th season, earned her 100th win at Temple when the Owls beat Lafayette, 18-15 on Feb. 25, 2018.
> Temple ranked second last season in the BIG EAST in both saves per game (10.29) and save percentage (.470). Â
