Women's Basketball Tops Houston for Fourth Straight Win

PHILADELPHIA -- Another monster performance from sophomore Mia Davis pushed the Temple women's basketball team past visiting Houston, 76-65, in front of over 3,200 fans at the Liacouras Center. Davis racked up 33 points and 17 rebounds as the Owls' fourth-straight win pushed them to 8-14 overall, 4-5 in conference play. The Cougars fell to 11-11 overall, 5-4 in the American.
 
Keys to the Game
> Temple again had a huge fourth quarter, outscoring Houston 23-15, to turn a three-point lead into a 11 point win.
> Tied 21-21 after one, Temple held just a one-point lead after three.
> The Owls out-shot Houston, 37.9% to 34.4%, while holding a 47-43 lead on the glass.
 
Individual Highlights
> A game removed from setting a career best with 30 points, Davis topped it by three, while also tying a career high with her 17 rebounds.
> Graduate Alliya Butts added 19 points, four rebounds, and four assists.
> Freshman Marissa Mackins chipped in with 14 points and four boards. 
> Senior Lena Niang (6 points) and sophomore Breanna Perry (4 points, 6 rebounds) rounded out the box score.
 
First Quarter
> A close first frame saw four ties and five lead changes.
> The Owls lead 21-17 late in the quarter, but a Houston four point play tied it after one.
 
Second Quarter
> Houston hit a pair of early threes to take a 27-23 lead.
> Temple answered with a 10-0 run to go up 33-27 with 3:15 on the clock.
> Houston responded by scoring 10 of the next 15 points to get within one, 38-37, at the half.
 
Third Quarter
> Houston regained the lead early in the third quarter, as a running jumper made it 43-40.
> Davis scored six straight points to push the Owls back on top, 49-45, but Houston tied things at 49-49.
> Davis continued to dominate the third, adding two more buckets as Temple closed the frame on a 4-1 run to lead 53-50.
 
Fourth Quarter
> Backed by 12 points from Davis and seven from Mackins, Temple outscored Houston 23-15.
> Five early points from Davis pushed it to an eight point lead, before Houston hit a three to make it 58-53.
> After Temple went up by eight, Houston cut it to five once again, before one final surge from Temple closed it out.
