Nate Pierre-Louis Shares AAC Most Improved Player Award
3.12.19 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA – Temple sophomore guard Nate Pierre-Louis has been named the co-Most Improved Player in the American Athletic Conference as the league released its individual awards today. Pierre-Louis shares the award with UConn sophomore Josh Carlton.
Pierre-Louis was third on Temple with 13.4 points per game and was second for the Owls with 5.7 rebounds per game. One of the top defensive players in the conference, the Plainfield, N.J. native ranked fifth in the conference with 1.6 steals per game and sixth with 34.1 minutes per game. He was one of three Temple players to start every game as the Owls posted a 20-win season and clinched the No. 3 seed in the American Athletic Conference Championship.
Pierre-Louis started just one game last year and improved in nearly every statistical category this season. His scoring is up almost six points per game from his 7.5 ppg average as a freshman. He has nearly doubled his rebounding average, going from 3.0 rpg to 5.7 rpg. He has 51 steals compared to 25 last year, and his 61 assists are more than four times as many as last season's total of 15.
Pierre-Louis is the third Owl honored by the league this week as senior guard Shizz Alston, Jr. and junior guard Quinton Rose were named first and second team All-AAC, respectively, on Monday.
Third-seed Temple (23-8, 13-5 AAC) opens play in the 2019 Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Championship on Friday (9:00 pm ET/ESPNU/1210 AM/WPHT) against the winner of sixth-seed Wichita State (17-13, 10-8) vs. 11th-seed ECU (10-20, 3-15).
The awards were voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.
The American Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year will be announced on Wednesday, March 13.
