Lacrosse Travels to #7 James Madison on Saturday

PHILADELPHIA - Temple lacrosse will face its biggest test of the season so far as the Owls head to #7 James Madison (6-1), the 2018 NCAA Champion. The Owls (3-5) had won two straight before suffering a 12-9 loss to Boston University at home earlier this week.

Scouting Temple
> The Owls are 3-5 this season and coming off a 12-9 home loss to Boston University on March 12, snapping a two-game win streak.
> Temple battled back from a 7-3 deficit vs. BU to take leads of 8-7 and 9-8, but gave up four straight goals to end the game. BU's goalkeeper, Kennady Smith, made 17 saves.
> Over Temple's Spring Break, the Owls won 13-10 at city rival La Salle and 16-12 at UMBC. Temple's 16 goals at UMBC were its most so far this season.
> Junior Maddie Gebert leads the Owls with 17 goals and 18 total points, and six other players have scored between six and 12 goals. Juniors Meghan Hoffman and Olivia Thompson are tied with 13 points each. Thompson has 12 goals while Hoffman has 10 along with three assists. 
> Both Gebert and sophomore Bridget Whitaker were named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on March 12 after impressive showings in the Owls' two wins on March 5 and March 9. Gebert recorded hat tricks in both, scoring three goals at La Salle and a season-high four goals at UMBC. Whitaker tied for the lead in total points at UMBC, adding three assists to two goals for five points. 
> Thompson exploded for a career-high six goals in the Owls' 12-10, come-from-behind win at Rutgers on Feb. 13 and was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll. Gebert also notched a hat trick in that victory with three goals.
> Whitaker is tied with sophomore Courtney Taylor for the team lead in caused turnovers with 11.
> Junior Kara Nakrasius has a team-best 35 draw controls while senior Amber Lambeth has 30 draws, 16 ground balls and eight caused turnovers. 
> After five years as an associate member of the Big East Conference, Temple begins its first season in the American Athletic Conference which is sponsoring women's lacrosse for the first time ever. The Owls will play their first AAC game at home against #16 Florida on March 30 after playing 10 non-conference contests.

Scouting James Madison
> The defending NCAA champion Dukes are off to a 6-1 start, losing only in their season opener at #2 North Carolina. JMU is 6-0 since then with wins over #14 Virginia Tech and #19 Penn State.
> Senior attacker Hanna Haven is this week's Colonial Athletic Association Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week and redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Molly Dougherty was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week.
> Haven leads the CAA in assists per game (2.43) and is second in points per game (4.57). Dougherty has the CAA lead in both goals against average (8.66) and save percentage (.545).
> Haven and Logan Brennan lead JMU with 15 goals each, while Maddie McDaniel is close behind with 13.

Series History vs. James Madison
> The teams have met seven times, with the Owls holding a narrow, 4-3 series lead.
> Last season, the #7 Dukes defeated Temple in Philadelphia by a score of 19-7.
> The Owls' last win in the series was in the 1997 NCAA Semifinals, and they have since lost three straight.
