3.16.19 | Women's Lacrosse
HARRISONBURG, Va. - Temple lacrosse outscored seventh-ranked James Madison (7-1) in the second half, but the Owls (3-6) were too far back to make enough of a dent against the defending national champion Dukes in a 16-10 road loss.Â
Game Summary
> Temple scored on half of its shots on goal, getting 10 of 20 to go, and utilized strong shot placement with only five of its 25 totals shots not going on goal.
> Draw controls hurt the Owls as they corralled just 10 compared to JMU's 18.
> The Dukes jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Owls scored three straight, but it was all JMU the rest of the half as the Dukes went on to take a 10-3 lead into the break.
> The Owls were down by as many as nine, 14-5, before scoring five of the last seven goals in the game. Hoffman scored two of those, including the final goal of the contest with just four seconds left.
Individual Highlights
> Seven different players scored for the Owls, with three of those scoring two goals each. Sophomore Gabby Acker was one of those two-goal scorers, with the two being the first goals of her career.
> Sophomore Bridget Whitaker and junior Meghan Hoffman also scored two goals apiece.
> Another first career goal was scored by sophomore Lydia Hetznecker in the final minute of the contest.
> Sophomore Jen Rodzewich and freshman Gabrielle Kirsch each tallied both a goal and an assist. Whitaker recorded one assist to go with her two goals.
> Junior Kara Nakrasius led the Owls with five draw controls and is now tied for fifth all-time at Temple with 111 draws. Nakrasius, Whitaker and Rodzewich all led Temple with two caused turnovers.
> Junior Maryn Lowell made six saves in 49 minutes of action, with sophomore Olivia Martin coming in to make four saves in 11 minutes.
Quotable - Head Coach Bonnie Rosen
> "It was a really good effort from our kids today. We fought from start to finish and that was really exciting. We made some nice runs that were really impressive, and our defense came up with some big stops at times off some really nice plays while our attack scored some nice goals."
> "We grew a lot in our depth over the past week. Gabby (Acker) stepped on the field for the first time this season and had a really good day for us. She's been working really hard in practice and showed some things that were what we needed today. It was easy to put her on the field and she made a big impact for us."
> "We didn't have quite enough to put a full run together but there were a lot of winning moments in the day and some smaller battles won. If we keep up this level of effort in practice and at games, I think we'll be excited to start conference play in two weeks."
