Golf Places Third at the Explorer Invitational

GLENSIDE, Pa. – Seniors Gary McCabe and Trey Wren tied for third to lead Temple Golf to a third place finish at the eight-team Explorer Invitational Monday. The one-day, 36-hole tournament was played through high winds most of the day at the par-71, 6,433-yard LuLu Country Club.
Previewing the Tournament

McCabe continued his hot play of late, turning in his best collegiate finish. He had a five-over 147 on the day which was one-shot back of the co-medalists. He led the Owls and tied for third with 24 pars to go along with four birdies.
Wren made seven birdies to tie for second in the 42-man field, but a double bogey in the morning round and a triple bogey in the afternoon proved damaging.
Redshirt junior Erik Reisner was next for the Owls, carding consecutive 76s to finish with a 10-over 152 to place 16^th.
Redshirt senior John Barone shot a three-over 74 in the morning, but an uncharacteristic nine-over 80 saw him finish with a 12-over 154 and in 21^st place.
Freshman Conor McGrath rounded out the squad with an 18-over 160.
Sophomore Matt Kristick, playing in his first collegiate tournament, led the Owls White team with a 13-over 155 to place 22^nd. Senior Sam Soeth was one shot back and tied for 23^rd while Aaron Tobin (159, t-27) and Liam McGrath (164, t-33) rounded out the team.

The Field

Villanova won the team title with a 592. The Wildcats were followed by Drexel (595), Temple Cherry (599), La Salle (608), Navy A (612), Navy B (615), Temple White (634) and Niagara (657).
Villanova's Matt Davis and Drexel's Jeffrey Cunningham tied for medalist honors with 4-over 146s.
