Lacrosse Hosts Villanova for "Most Valuable Professor" Day on Wednesday

PHILADELPHIA - Temple lacrosse is taking a break from conference play and hosting city rival Villanova (8-6) in a mid-week contest at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17. Temple (4-9) will be honoring its Most Valuable Professors prior to the start of the game, as nominated by the student-athletes on the team.
Scouting Temple
> The Owls are 4-9 overall and looking to rebound in the last few games of the season after going 1-5 in their last six contests.
> Temple earned its first-ever American Athletic Conference victory recently, winning 17-13 at UConn on April 6. Temple's 17 goals were a season high. In the Owls' other two AAC games, they lost 15-8 vs. #17 Florida on March 30 and lost 12-9 at Cincinnati on April 13.
> Junior Maddie Gebert was named the AAC Attacker of the Week after scoring a season-high five goals and adding an assist in the UConn win. Junior goalkeeper Maryn Lowell was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll.
> Gebert was matched in goals at UConn by fellow junior Olivia Thompson who also scored five, one shy of her season high of six goals that she scored in the Owls' win at Rutgers early in the year.
> After five years as an associate member of the Big East Conference, Temple has begun its first season in the American Athletic Conference which is sponsoring women's lacrosse for the first time ever. Four of six teams will advance to the AAC Tournament on May 2 & 4 at Cincinnati.
> Gebert leads Temple with 26 goals, followed by Thompson with 22 goals. Junior Meghan Hoffman has 14 goals while senior Amber Lambeth and sophomore Bridget Whitaker have 13 goals. Whitaker leads the Owls with 13 assists and ranks second to Gebert in total points with 24.
> Defender Kara Nakrasius has collected a team-best 52 draw controls and also has 13 caused turnovers. She is moving up the all-time record lists and currently ranks fifth all-time with 123 draw controls.
> Whitaker and sophomore Courtney Taylor lead the Owls with 19 caused turnovers each, while Taylor also has 35 ground balls, second only to Lowell's 37 ground balls.
> Over Spring Break, the Owls won 13-10 at city rival La Salle and 16-12 at UMBC.Â
> Both Gebert and Whitaker were named to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll on March 12 after impressive showings in the Owls' two wins on March 5 and March 9. Gebert recorded hat tricks in both, scoring three goals at La Salle and a season-high four goals at UMBC. Whitaker tied for the lead in total points at UMBC, adding three assists to two goals for five points.Â
> Thompson exploded for a career-high six goals in the Owls' 12-10, come-from-behind win at Rutgers on Feb. 13 and was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll. Gebert also notched a hat trick in that victory with three goals.

> The Wildcats are 8-6 overall with four of their losses coming to teams ranked in the Top 25. Most recently, they dropped a 12-8 decision vs. #23 Georgetown in BIG EAST play.
> Brittany Bruno and Liz Trojan lead Villanova with 27 goals each, while Katie Comerford and Ashley Lynch have 25 and 23 assists, respectively, and lead the team in overall points with 40 (Comerford) and 36 (Lynch).
> Alexa Moro is Villanova's starting goalkeeper with an 11.26 goals allowed average and a .452 save percentage.Â
> The Wildcats and their opponents are both averaging exactly 11.71 goals per game.
