Men’s Tennis Slated to Face UConn in First Round of AAC Tournament Thursday

PHILADELPHIA—Temple men's tennis (14-6, 3-1 AAC) will compete as the seventh seed in the American Athletic Conference Tournament and is set to face tenth-seeded UConn in the first round. The Owls will take on the Huskies at 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 18. The tournament will be played in Orlando, Fla. at the USTA National Campus and streamed live.

Championship Notes
> The tournament begins Thursday, April 18 and continues through Sunday April 21. Each day will feature a different round of the tournament: Thursday- First Round, Friday- Quarterfinals, Saturday- Semifinals and Sunday- Finals.
> Seeds for the championships are determined by the Oracle/ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings.
> Each match in the championship will consists of three doubles matches, each consisting of one set to six. Doubles will be followed by six singles matches, which will be played in a best-of-three sets format.

The Owls
> The team is led by head coach Steve Mauro, who is in his 13th year at the helm of the men's program.
> Temple enters the tournament with momentum, as the team has won nine-straight matches, four of which were sweeps.
> Last time out, the squad downed Eastern Florida State, 6-1, in their match of the regular season. Temple earned the doubles point with wins from the pairs of Alberto Caceres Casas and Mark Wallner at first doubles and Uladzimir Dorash and Paolo Cucalon at third doubles. Juan Araoz, Cucalon, Dorash, Eric Biscoveanu and Wallner each notched victories in singles.
> The doubles teams of Casas and Wallner and Dorash and Cucalon have been strong for the Owls. Casas and Wallner hold a 16-3 record at first doubles. Dorash and Cucalon are 13-3 on the season playing in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots.
> In singles, Wallner, Cucalon and Eric Biscoveanu have been impressive, owning 16-2, 11-4 and 12-4 records, respectively. Araoz boasts a 12-6 record and Dorash is 12-7. Casas is 8-7 overall, with a solid 6-2 mark in the No. 1 spot.

Scouting UConn
> UConn is led by Reinaldo Valor, who is in his first year as head coach of the Huskies.
> The team is in the midst of a seven-match losing streak. Uconn holds a 7-14 record and went 0-2 in AAC play. Last time out, the Huskies competed against Marist on April 6, falling to the Red Foxes, 5-2.
> The Owls and Huskies met earlier this season on March 9. Temple swept UConn, 7-0, in Storrs, Conn.
