PHILADELPHIA -- Three Temple boats raced in the 2019 Kerr Cup Regatta and three raced in duals at Princeton, as the Owls' men's crew team continued their spring season.
vs. Georgetown, Marist, Holy Cross (Heavyweight V8, 2V8, F8)
> Temple's varsity eight showed a marked improvement, finishing second, in the four-boat race. #23 Marist took first in 5:39.8 followed closely by the Owls in 5:42.6. #24 Georgetown (5:43.2) and Holy Cross (5:51.5) rounded out the race.
> In second varsity eight racing, Temple's time of 6:01.0 was fourth, as Georgetown (5:49.1), Holy Cross (5:52.9), and Marist (5:57.2) topped the field.
> Temple's freshmen eight finished third out of four boats to wrap the racing. Marist won it in 5:57.7, followed by Georgetown (6:02.7), Temple, and Holy Cross (6:27.8).
Kerr Cup (Lightweights, 3V8 Heavyweights)
> Temple's lightweight eight finished just out of a grand finals berth in the opening heats, as their third place time of 6:09.92 was barely edged by Colgate's 6:08.66. The Owls finished nearly 30 seconds over the fourth place boat, Lehigh, and also cruised past Carnegie Mellon and JWU.
> In the petite final, the Owls notched a victory, finishing in 6:16.76, ahead of West Point, Rutgers, La Salle, Lehigh, and Villanova.
> Temple's second lightweight eight earned a spot in the finals with a second place finish in the opening heats. The Owls were just behind Drexel's heavyweight boat, and their time of 6:18.12 put them ahead of UC San Diego, West Point, and Rutgers.
> In the finals, Temple took fifth overall, clocking in at 6:32.80.
> Temple's heavyweight third varsity eight finished fifth in the finals, recording a final time of 6:46.20.
