Men’s Basketball Heads to the Bahamas for 2019 Foreign Trip
5.16.19 | Men's Basketball
PHILADELPHIA – Temple men's basketball will kick off the Aaron McKie era in style as the Owls depart for a week-long trip to the Bahamas starting August 2.
Temple will play games against Bahamian Select Teams on August 3rd, 5th and 6th at Kendall Isaacs Gym at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Complex in Nassau. It will mark the first-ever trip to the Bahamas for the Owls, and the first foreign trip by the program since 2013.
"This trip will be beneficial in so many ways," said McKie. "It gives our team the ability to have a mini-camp in the summer, play games and find its own identity. It also provides our new players the opportunity to gain invaluable experience on the court before the start of the season."
Temple, which is the fifth winningest program in NCAA Division I history, is coming off a 23-10 season that included a trip to the 2019 NCAA Tournament. Eleven players return from that squad including senior Quinton Rose, a second team all-conference and all-Big 5 honoree, and junior Nate Pierre-Louis, the AAC and Big 5 Most Improved Player.
Incoming freshmen Josh Pierre-Louis and Damion Dunn, as well as incoming transfers Jake Forrester and Tai Strickland, will be joining the team for the Bahamas Trip.
During the summer, men's basketball teams are only allowed to practice for four hours per week per NCAA rules. However, due to the fact that the Owls will compete in a foreign trip, the team will also be able to hold 10 full practices prior to their trip.
