Lacrosse Falls 13-9 to Cincinnati in AAC Tournament Semifinals

CINCINNATI - After a strong start, Temple lacrosse struggled in the latter part of the first half and allowed Cincinnati to pull away, ultimately falling 13-9 to the Bearcats (12-6) in the semifinals of the inaugural American Athletic Conference Tournament. The Owls' season concludes with an overall record of 6-11.
Keys to the Game
> Cincinnati had a 5-0 run in the first half and a 3-0 run in the second to put the game out of reach for the Owls.
> Total shots and shots on goal both favored the Bearcats, while draw controls finished even at 12-12.
> UC had just a 13-12 advantage in shots on goal in the first half but a 7-4 lead in saves.
> Temple's Maryn Lowell had a strong second half with six saves, but the Owls weren't able to put together a run of more than two goals.
Individual Highlights
> Maddie Gebert tied her season high with five goals to lead the Owls.
> Temple got a season-high four assists from Bridget Whitaker, and a pair of goals from Olivia Thompson, both in the opening eight minutes.
> Whitaker added a team-best and season-high six draw controls for Temple.
> Meghan Hoffman and Amber Lambeth also scored for the Owls.
First Half
> Two behind-the-back goals by Thompson, both assisted by Whitaker, gave the Owls an early 2-1 lead.
> The teams traded goals for the first 15 minutes as the game saw four early ties, the last at 4-4 on a Lambeth free-position goal near the 16-minute mark.
> Cincinnati then held Temple scoreless until the final minute, using a 5-0 run to take a 9-4 lead with 3:18 to go.
> Gebert had a chance to end the drought at 4:14 but her free-position shot was saved. She was one to finally put up another Temple goal with 35 seconds left on the third assist of the game by Whitaker, and the Owls trailed 9-5 at halftime.
Second Half
> Gebert started the Owls off with a free-position goal two minutes in to get them within three, but it would be over 10 minutes before Temple scored again.
> Cincinnati posted three straight for a 12-6 lead near the midway point, and got a big save from its goalkeeper on a Gebert free-position shot near the 17-minute mark.
> Racing down the field shortly after the Bearcats' 12th goal, Gebert drove in determined and scored her third goal at 14:43. She followed it with goal number four on a free-position attempt at 12:32, putting the Owls' within four at 12-8.
> Gebert got one more to go near the five-minute mark after the Bearcats' had scored, and neither team scored again in the remaining time.
