Lacrosse Set to Face Cincinnati Tonight in AAC Semifinal

CINCINNATI - The postseason has arrived for Temple lacrosse as the third-seeded Owls (6-10) get set to face second-seeded and host Cincinnati (11-6) in the American Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals. The Thursday game is set for approximately 45 minutes following the conclusion of top-seeded Florida vs. fourth-seeded Vanderbilt at 4:30 p.m. at Cincinnati's Sheakley Athletics Center.

Scouting Temple
> Temple is making its first postseason appearance in two years. The Owls made Big East Tournament appearances in both 2016 and 2017, advancing to the championship game in 2016. 
> With three AAC First Team selections and five AAC Second Team honorees, Temple set a record for postseason awards. The Owls' previous best was six honorees, achieved in 2016 as a member of the Big East Conference.
> Earning All-AAC First Team honors were juniors Maddie Gebert and Kara Nakrasius, and sophomore Bridget Whitaker. The Owls' All-AAC Second Team honorees were senior Amber Lambeth, juniors Maryn Lowell, and Olivia Thompson, and sophomores Courtney Taylor and Jen Rodzewich.
> The Owls are 6-10 overall and coming off an impressive, 11-6 win at Vanderbilt that earned them a third-place finish after being picked fourth in the AAC Preseason Coaches Poll.
> Junior goalkeeper Maryn Lowell made a season-high 15 saves at Vanderbilt, while sophomore Jen Rodzewich scored three goals and added two assists in the victory.
> The Owls have won two straight, getting an 18-5 win over ECU at home on April 20 for Senior Day. 
> Temple has a much stronger road record this season than at home, going 5-4 on the road so far while finishing the home season at 1-6 overall.
> Junior Maddie Gebert earned her second AAC Attacker of the Week Award on April 23. She scored four goals in the Owls' loss to Villanova on April 17, and followed it up with three goals in the ECU win on April 20.
> Gebert leads Temple with 35 goals, followed by junior Olivia Thompson with 29 goals. Sophomore Bridget Whitaker has a team-best 17 assists to go with 15 goals, totaling 32 points to rank second only to Gebert's 39 points. Whitaker was named to the AAC Weekly Honor Roll for a second time on April 23.
> Defender Kara Nakrasius has collected a team-best 65 draw controls and also has 15 caused turnovers. She is moving up the all-time record lists and currently ranks fourth all-time with 136 draw controls.
> Sophomore Courtney Taylor leads the Owls with 26 caused turnovers and also has 41 ground balls, second only to Lowell's 46 ground balls.
> The highest single-game goal total of the season belongs to Thompson who exploded for a career-high six goals in the Owls' 12-10, come-from-behind win at Rutgers on Feb. 13.  

Scouting Cincinnati
> The Bearcats had won eight straight until a 25-6 loss at #18 Florida to conclude the regular season. One of those wins was against Temple at home on April 13.
> With 11 wins, Cincinnati has set a program record for wins in a season, surpassing its previous high of eight.
> UC allowed nine or fewer goals to five straight opponents, the longest streak in program history.
> Junior Monica Borzillo ranks second in the AAC in goals (57) and first in assists (44) for 101 total points to set a new program record at Cincinnati.
> Borzillo's 5.94 points per game rank second among all players in NCAA Division I.
> As a team, the Bearcats lead all teams in NCAA Division I with 28.88 ground balls per game. Cincinnati's 12.41 caused turnovers per game rank fifth in the nation.

Series History vs. Cincinnati
> Temple holds a 5-1 lead all-time against Cincinnati, having faced the Bearcats in each of the last five seasons as a BIG EAST opponent.
> This year's meeting, the first as AAC rivals, marked the first-ever win for Cincinnati as the Bearcats pulled out a 12-9 home win on April 13.
> Last year's win for Temple was the closest in the series, with the Owls pulling out a 9-8 double-overtime home win on a golden goal by Maddie Gebert.

Conference Tournament History
> The Owls are seeded third in the first-ever American Athletic Conference Tournament after being picked to finish fourth in the Preseason Coaches Poll.
> Temple made two appearances in the BIG EAST Tournament from 2014-18 since joining the league as an associate member in 2014. 
> Temple missed the cut in 2014 and 2015 before making a splash in 2016 as the third seed, upsetting second-seeded UConn in the semifinals before falling to top-seeded Florida in the championship game.
> The Owls were the four seed in their most recent BIG EAST Tournament in 2017, and lost 21-9 to #2 and top-seeded Florida.
> Over 17 years in the Atlantic 10 Conference from 1999 to 2013, Temple advanced to the A-10 Tournament a total of 13 times. The Owls earned five titles including one under current head coach Bonnie Rosen in 2008.
