Maddie Gebert Earns Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Lacrosse Team Recognition
6.11.19 | Women's Lacrosse
PHILADELPHIA - For her achievements both on the field and in the classroom, Temple junior Maddie Gebert is one of 12 student-athletes selected to the 2019 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Lacrosse Team. This marks the sixth year in a row that the Owls have had at least one honoree, and they have also been represented in nine of the last 10 years.
Gebert, a supply chain management major with a 3.63 GPA, was a 2019 American Athletic Conference First Team honoree and a 2019 Preseason All-AAC Team selection. She led the Owls with 40 goals, helping them reach the first-ever AAC Women's Lacrosse Tournament with a 3-2 league record, and was a two-time AAC Attacker of the Week.
Gebert started in all 17 games in 2019 and scored two game-winning goals. She scored a goal in 15 of 17 contests with seven hat tricks, including a season high-tying five goals in the Owls' AAC Tournament quarterfinal game. Notably, Gebert was diagnosed with epilepsy in high school and began sharing her story about dealing with the disease in the 2018-19 school year.
In each of the past two years, Gebert has been named to Temple's President's Honor Roll for having a GPA of 3.5 or above.
The 12 members of the Academic All-Area Women's Lacrosse team include student-athletes from 10 different institutions. West Chester has both Performer of the Year Maggie Stella and teammate Sami Barnett. Penn's Erin Barry and Gabby Rosenzweig were also both selected.
Filling out the All-Area team were selections from Swarthmore (Sadie Camilliere), Saint Joseph's (Bridget Cerciello), Haverford (Allie Gibbons), Drexel (Karson Harris), Rowan (Liz Kramer), Cabrini (Avery Murphy), and Jefferson (Sarah von Lange).
